Mom's Crafty Creations

My folks stopped by on their way through from Ontario and treated me to a lovely dinner. Mom gave me this fun hat and scarf that she'd knit. She so crafty! They are merino wool - nice and warm, and I'm not allercid to it! (I'l allergic to most wools)...

Thanks, mom, for the awesome hat and scarf!

Scrubbing the Floors

It's been a long while since I've done more than a quick mop of my floors and a good scrubbing was overdue. It took a good chunk of my evening and I was pretty sore by the end of it, but I'm still glad I did it. Man, did it ever need it!

Clearing out some more free time

Well, I've decided to stop doing things in my freee time that I don't really enjoy, so I have just put my notice in to a couple of commitments that I'd had. No more TMNT for me - I just wasn't that into the game and felt like I should be getting other things done while I was there. Good luck to all of you mutants and your adventures. I also stepped down from the SJTC Second Stage Planning Committee. My heart just hasn't been in it for the last year or so and it's not fair to the committee that I stay on. Good luck with ToTE and future Second Stage productions. I'll be around, just not planning things anymore. I feel like a bit of a weight has been lifted off my chest. Time to get things of my own done that I've been procrastinating doing...

Bluegrass Jamboree

It's late and I got home a while ago from an awesome house party that Kizzy invited me along to that turned out to be in Sussex Corner. I'm talking a bit of a sound system and some INCREDIBLE bluegrass musicians - wow. At one point I looked around and there were 6 guitarists, a banjo player, a fiddler and a cello. Not to mention the singing. Talk about inspiring. And a really great and really nice group of people.

Mmm... Roasted Root Vegetables

Tonight I treated myself to a roasted vegetable dish that I love... I chopped up potato and carrots and parsnips and onion and minced soem garlic and then tossed it all with olive oil and rosemary and salt and pepper. I turned my oven on to 425 and spread out the mixture on a couple of baking sheets and then put them in the oven for about half an hour, turning them once. What a treat - and now my apartment smells great too!

I don't know what it is but one of my cats adores the smell of parsnips.

Tuesday Night TMNT RPG

We gathered at John & Sabine's and continued our adventure with our mutant characters. In case I have not mentioned, I'm currently playing a mutant wild cat that doesn't trust others and is good at prowling, climbing and wilderness survival. Oh, and she can claw and bite others - and use a revolver. Her name is Savannah. Along with the rest of the gang, they have been dispatched to Tijuana, Mexico to deal with a giant dragon that has been scaring the townsfolk. It's our Tuesday night silliness. The funniest part about the game is the fact that our gang seems to get so caught up in small things that a one-evening adventure can turn into weeks of mini-adventures. Last week was a huge adventure as we tried to cross the border. This week, we managed to find the facaility that is responsible for the mostrosity. Great fun!

I was tired and probably should have called it a night after our gaming session, but I couldn't resist the lure of FFXII on my PS2, which I wound up playing until midnight. Such a good game.

A French Farce for Monday

I didn't feel like doing a bloody thing on Monday night. I could easily have stayed home and hibernated and been completely lazy. But Mare had invited me over to watch a French Farce with her and Jay and I just couldn't resist. I mean, after all, who can resist a good dose of silliness on a Monday evening? The movie, "The Dinner Party," was fantastic! It was really smart and funny and I can totally understand why Mare loves it so much! (Thanks for sharing, Mare!) It was also really nice to see Mare and Jay, as it had been a while since I'd hung out with either of them.

A Weekend of Tubing in the Miramachi

It was an awesome & relaxing weekend. I headed up too the Miramachi with Colleen, Doug, Lisa, Anthony, Mike D and his roommate Chris. We camped out on Colleen's parents lawn and enjoyed the awesome hospitality and weather.

Friday night was a bonfire - complete with smores and even a banana boat! Saturday wasa perfect day for a nice big breakfast and then an afternoon of tubing. I prefer my own tube but the rentals were sturdier (my own has a head rest and mesh bottom and cup holders and is just overall more comfy). The river was fast and there were a few good sections of rapids and a few pretty shallow spots as well. Still though - we had perfect weather for it!! A full day out in the sun made for a rather quiet eveing and a few of us decided to stay an extra evening. We stopped out at a pub for some crazy trivia challenge and then decided to have a quiet night in with a movie rental. We wound up renting "Raiders of the Lost Ark" as Lisa hadn't seen it before. I made it to the point that Indy shoots the guy doing the fancy knife stuff and then I headed out to the tent to crash. We came back to Saint John on Sunday and on the way back I read most of the book that I'd brought along, "Falling Angels" by Tracy Chevalier (and I finished it once I got home).

I didn't feel like doing a thing that evening, so when Ann called, I welcomed the opportunity to eat out (mmm... Swiss Chalet!) and then we decided to go see "Knocked Up" as we'd heard that it was really good and had a lot of heart. We both really enjoyed the movie and I'm glad we went.

Been busy...

I've been busy trying to update my portfolio and alternately taking it easy. We had a very entertaining TMNT RPG (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Role Playing Game) at John's this week. My character was in a truck with Anthony's character and we decided to "Give'er" and Ram through the fence and across the river at a border checkpoint. Unfortunately, due to a whole series of bad dice rolls, we wound up upside down in the middle of the river, then Anthony's character got shot and landed face-down, unconscious in the river, then started to float downstream, while we spent a great deal of time trying to catch him and save him. Eventually we got him and brought him to a hospital. Again, more lousy dice rolls as the medics tried to revive him left Anthony with one mere hit point to his life. He got to roll for his life at the very end and he managed to save it. Whew! All sorts of drama! :-)

I've also recently picked up with playing Final Fantasy 12 on the PS2 again. I played a bit on Sunday and Monday nights. What a great game.

A Beautiful Weekend

I spent a bit of time on the weekend working on a new design for my portfolio, and a bit of time doing chores and running errands, but I did enjoy a few very nice relaxing things...

Friday night it was nice to just go out for a beer after work and catch up with friends.

Saturday afternoon was an excellent day of tubing on the Hammond river. (Saturday evening turned out to be rather mellow for me, as I'd gotten so much sun that afternoon. I stopped in at Kristi's party, but was home early.

Sunday evening I decided to pick up Final Fantasy XII from where I'd last played and continue along. Man, that game is so awesome - I wonder how I'd managed to put it down and not play since February!

London unveils logo of 2012 Olympic Games

I don't know if they anticipated this much negative marketing, but that's how it seems to be working out...

The logo for the 2012 Olympics that are being held in London, England were unveiled and it looks like a bad music video from the 1980's. It's tacky and cheesy and just plain sad...

The smell...

My allergies have been bad this week, and when combined with general stress, I wound up with an extremely irritated scalp - which seemed like really bad dandruff. I headed down to the drug store to pick up some shampoo and jsut grabbed one of the medicated ones that claimed that it'd help. Oy. When I got home from work and washed my hiar, I realized that ti smelled like tar. To me, it smelled like a dirty ashtray. So. Gross. I gave it a whirl anyway and figured it'd at least help (and it did) but I also re-washed my hair right away with regular shampoo and couldn't get rid of the smell. Needless to say, on the way hoe from work today, I tossed the bottle and stopped back in to the drugstore and picked up some Nizoral.
