OK, so I know most folks are familiar with Barbies - I had a lot of them, but I also had Sindy dolls. I also had the cindy townhouse - which was taller tahn I was when I first got it!

It really depends on the situation. Sometimes I get in a zone and don't even notice if I walk past friends on teh street. Other times I notice every little detail of things.

Last night - I wasn't aware of how many people had been involved withthe KV Players. I'd gone to theri 25th Anniversary Review show and it was inspiring and fantastic!

Behavioral Evaluation Interview
Oy the stress. I had my first behavioural evaluation interview and I felt all talked out and all sressed out. No idea how it went - I've been told I'll hear back next week. The position is within the same company but it is in a space that I haven't worked in before. Here's hoping!

Le Weekend Update
It was a fairly quiet weekend - some gaming, a few errands, a bit of hanging out with friends, and a great D&D game. I had a ton of things that I wanted to get done but oh well. Sometimes it just works that way.

A Harry Potter Evening
I met up with Lisa & Jay M to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It was better than the book, but then I found that book to be my least favorite of the series. I thought it was succinct and I'm glad they were able to stick to the main story, even if it meant missing some of the sub plots, such as Quiddich, etc. At any rate, I'm glad I saw it and I did enjoy it.

The Sleepy Weekend
My co-worker Csaba and his wife Judy were hosting a big shindig at their place on Friday evening. I was really looking forward to it - they even had Matt Anderson playing at it! So I got home from work, got a few things done, washed and dried my hair, and felt a bit tired. So I figured I'd take a short nap. I even remembered to set my alarm so I wouldn't oversleep. But I wound up sleeping right through it and missing the party. :-( I guess I needed the sleep.
I slept in a bit on Saturday. I don't norally sleep in on weekends. I guess I was still catching up on it. After running errands and re-stringing the guitar, I headed down to Happinez with Matt to meet up with a few friends to do a wine-tasting seminar with Craig Phinney (I guess Stephanie had won it at the Germain Steet auction last year). As expected, Craig was passionate about wines and it was a very insightful discussion. The few samples we had turned into a few more bottles and a very chatty evening, which was quite enjoyable. :-)
Sunday I slept in even longer AND I wound up taking a mid-afternoon nap, which menat that I had to really rush to make it to D&D on time. Our characters had to investigate a couple of murders and it was not terribly pleasant. Sure enough we eventually found the culprits, after we'd chased them down a secret passage. Our characters are currently engaged in battle with them and it ain't pretty. We had to cut things of in the middle of battle, as it was getting late. It's going to be a long week waiting for the next session.

Blueberries. I could eat them all the time. I also have lots of fond memories of blueberry picking at a friends cottage when I was a teenager. Love them.

Who is someone you consider as a great role model?
I know it may seem a bit common and cheesy and I do agree that she can get a wee bit preachy at times, but I think that Oprah is a very good role model. She seems to have integrity and decent values and respect for herself and others.
Salad
If you were to spend one night anywhere within an hour of your home, where would you choose?
I'd bring along a bottle of wine and visit my friend Joanna, who lives about an hour away. We'd cook and eat and drink and catch up and then the next morning, eat more and laze about. She's a great cook, and even though we work in the same office, we don't see too much of each other, so it would be nice to catch up.

I really like running because it clears my head and it energizes me. I really like drawing and painting because I get in a zone and lose track of time and worries. I really like reading because it's like a a vacation, and sometimes like visiting a freind. I really like Thai food because each thing has it's own unique flavor, and I can it most of it because there is no dairy in it.

Learning Guitar
OK fine. I wasn't going to say anything about it, but then I do tend to get enthusiastic about new things that I get involved with, and I can't help but talk about it. So I've decided to learn how to play the guitar. There are all sorts of reasons why I'm starting now - I've been to lots of sing-alongs lately and would love to hear the songs I know and want to hear, I'm taking a mini-break from theatre so I have a wee bit of spare time, it's a great distraction from updating my portfolio (which I really need to be focusing on), and I'll be 35 in the fall and this is one of those things that I've always kind of wanted to try and I'd like to try it before I hit 35 (and I still have no idea why this birthday seems to be the one that means something, as I've never realy given a hoot about age in the past).
So, I found some great lessons online: free lessons on About.com actually. They seem to be pretty decent, and it would be an inexpensive way to start. Next, I would actaully need a guitar. I called a couple of friends and tracked one down that I could borrow. My friend Chris used to play guitar but hasn't used it in a long while. It's a very nice acoustic guitar, and he even lent me the stand and a tuner. I didn't want to go out and buy one because I wasn't sure if I'd even like it or not, or if I'd even stick with it.
Day 1 was last Friday. Scott M popped by and helped me get started. I learned how to tune it, and I learned a basic set of scales to practise, and learned three chords (G, C, and D major). My goal was to spend 20 minutes a day on it and then put it down.
As friends have predicted, my fingertips are a wee bit tender. I am looking forward to building up calluses. Otherwise, it seems to be going pretty well. I know it's a steep learning curve and I'm willing (so far) to put the time in to at least get some basics down. If I eventually decide to stick with it and I can afford it, I'll look into possibly purchasing the guitar from Chris and taking lessons. Small steps for now though.
I headed over to Scott and Mare's to play a bit of guitar with Scott. It was a good exercise and will be a good motivator to keep improving. He has an electric guitar that he let me try out. I can totally see why so many people learn on electric guitars - what a difference. Still, I prefer the sound of the accoustic, and since it is so much less forgiving, it's forcing me to learn properly, which I appreciate. Mare treated us to a very neat strawberry cake, and was patient enough to listen to our struggles. OK - my struggles, as Scott is already easily stumming and changing chords. I am thankful to have such supportive friends!

It was a quiet weekend that ended in a rousing adventure of D&D, where we celebrated and adventured through the rest of the King's birthday and my character's love got killed.

Transformers review
Well I saw the new Transformers movei last night and I really enjoyed it. I guess I was in the mood for mind-numbing action-fluff. The movie seemed to have a great sense of humour about itself and if you were willing to roll with it, it delivered. Slick and sexy robots and effects, a handful of fun characters and a bit of silliness thrown in - et voila: summer blockbuster fun.

I Enjoyed "As You Like It"
With the uncertain weather patterns that we've been having, I decided to head out to see KV Players "As You Like It" in the Rothesay Commons early in the week. I wound up going there with Matt and a couple of his friends. The show was cute and had some fun modern twists and it looked like everyone was having fun doing it. The crowd was pretty good too. I like their set-up this year - with the tent and the borders and lights, etc. It did start to rain about 1/2 an hour before the end of the show. Thankfully I had a hoodie, because I'd unfortunately forgotten my umbrella. Good job to those involved with the production! Thanks for the entertainment :-)

Long Weekend in Review
The long weekend was pretty mellow. Friday after-work beer-o'clock turned into dancing in Kizzy's living room to YouTube videos at 2:30 in the morning. I love it when an unplanned party occurs!
Needless to say, I was a bit tuckered and perhaps even a bit hung over on Saturday so it was a quiet day. I headed out to do groceries and wound up getting sucked into "the vortex" (McAllistar Place & environs), emerging 4 hours later with multiple shopping bags. I headed home and fed the cats and then headed over to the Greek Festival. Kizzy was singing with Opa when I got there, and when she finished her set, we enjoyed the awesomely delicious food. We had planned to stick around to see Pavlo perform, and we were breifly introduced to him, but we were both pretty beat and decied to leave and perhaps head back later, which we didn't do. I stopped in at Matt's house party for a short bit and met a few friends of his and caught up with a couple of other people, but I was feeling pretty tired and mellow so I didn't stick around long.
Sunday morning I almost finished "Bitten" by Lisa Armstrong. It was a very action-packed read about a woman who is a modern-day werewolf. A bit of a mystery and a good quick read (thanks for the lend, Lisa!) I then headed to Kizzy's for her big Canada Day BBQ, which was great. I didn't drink much and wound up sticking around until 12:30. It was nice to catch up with everyone there and I enjoyed the BBQd food, the company and the bonfire and singing. When I got home, I finished reading "Bitten" :-)
Monday I was pretty thankful to have a day off and made the most of lounging around and haning with my cats. I finally got up and made some guacamole and grabbed my stuff and headed to Jay M's for a good big session of D&D. We had a bit of a slow start to the session as Anthony worked out a bunch of spell and scroll stuff that he had to figure out, and we paused part way through the evening and enjoyed a tasty BBQd meal. Our adventuring company made it to the King's birthday but the feast hasn't started yet. That'll be next week. I can't wait!!
