Wednesday, January 30, 2008 A Slacker's Update I'm slack at updateing because I've been too busy to get to it. My weekend was filled with errands and a rush to try and finish reading "Pillars of the Earth" (by Ken Follett) before book club Sunday evening. I almost finished. I had about 200 pages left to read. I was actually hoping to finish it by today but once again, I have not had the time or energy. (You see, Oprah is featuring it on her book club and they have Ken Follett on the show today, so I want to watch it.) I also did a bit more mural work at O'Leary's - there is now a celtic saying above the flag. It means "a hundred thousand welcomes". More ladder work but it only took me 5 hours so I wasn't nearly as sore as I was last week from spending so much time on a ladder. I've also started the set design for "Tuesday's With Morrie". It should be pretty simple. We got to test out the system for flying and fighting while in the ship and it seemed to go quite well once we got the hang of it. I got home with intentions to read before hitting the hay, but in the end, I didn't even have the energy to crack open my book. Posted by Dre at 7:04 AM 0 comments Tuesday, January 22, 2008 Lots-o-work Busy week with a ton of overtime. took Saturday to clean my apartment and pick up paints and get things ready for painting. Spent Sunday from 9 AM - 1:15 AM painting a mural of an Irish flag on a wall in O'Leary's pub and I'm on day 2 of super-sore calves from 15 hours on a ladder. The remainder of the mural will go up next Sunday. It's some text that will go between the ceiling and the flag. I hope it doesn't even take half as long. No matter, I'll have to be done so I can get home and host book club. Which reminds me, I'd better get reading. I'd picked my favorite book, Pillars of the Earth. I haven't read it in years and I wanted to re-read it. So I've got to do that before Sunday. Also, I need to get working on the set design for "Tuesday's with Morrie". There are not enough hours in the day. Posted by Dre at 7:23 AM 0 comments Tuesday, January 15, 2008 SO good!!! I worked late while watching the entire second season of "How I Met Your Mother". Fantastic. Also managed to get a lot of work done. Posted by Dre at 7:03 AM 0 comments a belated weekend update At this time of the morning, the weekend seems to be a bit fuzzy for me. Let's see if I can remember a few highlights... - Got errands done. - Enjoyed a play reading of "The Manchurian Candidate. Let me be more specific here: I enjoyed the reading and I enjoyed seeing everyone, but I'm still not so sure what I think of the script. It didn't seem to flow too well or something. It had some great parts but overall it left me feeling 'meh' althought I can't quite put my finger on why. - watched the remaining episodes of season 1 of "How I Met Your Mother" with Keith. LOVE that show! - enjoyed an awesome 'season finale' of Dungeons & Dragons. It'll be a few weeks before we have time to play again. If so, what would you like to be called? Nadine. No, I would not change any of my names. Soup If you were a fashion designer, which fabrics, colors, and styles would you probably use the most? I would be fond of using purples and teals. The designs would be on the dressier side of things. Salad What is your least favorite chore, and why? Cleaning the bathroom - hard on the back. Main Course What is something that really frightens you, and can you trace it back to an event in your life? I cannot think of anything that really frightens me. War, I suppose. Glad I live where I live. Dessert Where are you sitting right now? Name 3 things you can see at this moment. On my couch. I can see my new ceramic WonderWoman figurine adorning the clock on the mantle (thanks, Keith, for that awesome Christmas gift!). Above that, I can see the framed watercolor painting of a samurai that I did. Also on the mantle (among other things) is a miniature of Minas Tirith, from The Lord of the Rings. Posted by Dre at 7:10 AM 0 comments Tuesday, January 08, 2008 Monday night with the gals :-) I enjoyed a lovely evening of pad thai and the movie "Stardust" with Lisa and Mare last night. It was relaxing and fun. By the way thanks, Mare, for the Scotland calendar. I also made it to bed at a reasonable hour last night. First time in a while. Posted by Dre at 7:33 AM 0 comments Monday, January 07, 2008 Weekend #1 of the New Year I'd promised myself that I would take it easy this month and find some time for me, and that's exactly what I did this weekend. I spent the better part of my weekend playing Eternal Sonata (I'm almost done) and a bit of time running errands, and then finished off the weekend with a good game of D&D. Yay for mellow times! Posted by Dre at 7:34 AM 0 comments Friday, January 04, 2008 Chopin One of the games that Keith gave me for Christmas is called Eternal Sonata. It's essentially a dream by the composer Frederick Chopin and everything in it relates to music. It's an anime-style RPG and I'm hooked. One of the neat things about it is that it occassionally pauses to show actual slides of Eurpoe and tells bits of the story of Chopin. Kinda whacky but interesting. :-) Posted by Dre at 7:18 AM 0 comments Wednesday, January 02, 2008 Resolutions? I normally don't make resolutions for the new year, but I am going to try to get back on track with a few things that I let slip - like geting back to a more regular fitness routine and paying off some debts. The one thing that feels more resolution-like is my attempt to once again stop drinking pop. I'd stopped a number of years ago and I felt a whole lot better, and then sometime within the last year, I started drinking it again. Hopefully I'll be able to stick with it. :-) Posted by Dre at 7:14 AM 0 comments Tuesday, January 01, 2008 Happy New Year! Well, it was an eventful 2007. I was busy with Stage Managing Cabaret in the Spring, a job change in the Summer, and all sorts of things through the Autumn. This December turned out to be even busier than I'd expected. Thankfully my father is now out of the hospital after 2 surgeries on his ankle. It'll be a slow process of rehabilitation for him - I wish him and my mom the best of luck with it. It was nice to see so much of my friends over the many social gatherings over the holidays, but it was even nicer to be able to spend New Year's Day hanging out at home with Keith and my cats and some video games. I'd been in serious need of down time. Posted by Dre at 11:30 PM 0 comments |
