Winter Wonderland Coat
It has been a bit of a frustrating start, as I haven't had much time to knit/concentrate on this but I feel like I'm finally getting into the swing of things. I picked up this wonderful book called Inspired to Knit by Michelle Rose Orne and fell in love with this pattern for a knitted coat.
So I started the pattern a while ago but got busy, and had to re-do a few rows here and there, but now I've gotten into the swing of things and I just can't wait to complete it so I can wear it (especially before it gets too warm). It takes about 20 balls of yarn and I'm into my 3rd, so it may be a while yet.

The Busy Weekend
Friday I rushed home from work to clean my apartment as much as I could before 6:30. Then I hopped in the shower and washed my hari and got ready to head out to a dinner gathering at Kristi and Anthony's. It was a lot of fun - great food & company & drank a bit much.
Saturday I got up early to do a bit more tidying, and then go tape out the set design in the rehearsal space. I finished at 12:45 and had to be back for 1:45 so I ran and got groceries and dropped them back off at home in that "fee" hour. We had our first blocking rehearsal that afternoon. It went well, but we didn't get out of there until about 5:30. I headed home, made, ate and tidied up from supper, and then sat down to work on some stage manager things - emailing, schedule, etc. I finished at 12:30 AM.
Sunday morning I got to enjoy a couple of hours to myself. I watched the first two episodes of season 1 of The House of Elliot and I managed to finish knitting a scarf for myself. At noon, I picked up Anthony, headed out to the mall & bulk barn for a couple of things and then we headed to Jay & Lisa's for D&D. The game went well and I started a fun blue/pink cotton chenille scarf for Lisa. I managed to get about 7" done. We finished playing at 6:15, so I rushed to get home and drop off my gaming stuff, pick up my script, feed the cats, grab an apple, and head to rehearsal at 7PM. That session of blocking went quite well. We managed to finish by 9:15 and I headed home and took care of a few more stage manager items until about 10:30, at which point I watched another episode of The House of Elliot and tried to figure out where I'd made a mistake in the sweater that I'm trying to knit for myself.
Needless to say, it was a verrry busy weekend. It's a good thing I enjoy all of my hobbies!

More painting & rehearsals
Yep - that was pretty much my weekend.
Friday after work I had Jay & Lisa over to hang out, and my landlord & another plumber to thaw my bathroom pipes. Glad Lisa enjoyed "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" - it's such a cute film! Jay headed off to game and we continued to chill out and watch cute films. I desperately needed the mellow evening.
Saturday we had a rehearsal for Crimes, then I ran errands adn did chores. By the time I stopped, it was late in the evening. Can't wait to get back to my knitting. I'd love to get a large chunk of it done.
Sunday got up early, wiped out on hidden ice outside of my apartment and thankfully didn't break anything. Spent 13.5 hours on scaffolding trying to get as much done on the miral as possible. Went home, took advil, popped online for a few minutes to unwind and then hit the hay.
I hope to finish the mural tonight. It'll be nice to have some more free time again. It'll also be nice to get paid for the mural work. :-)

weekend #2 of the new year
I started off on the right foot, catching up with Jay & Lisa over a beer, and then I spent the remainder of my Friday evening running errands and cleaning my apartment. I know it may not sound all that exciting, but I was pleased with how much I managed to get done in one evening. I had hoped I'd have time to watch a little BSG before bed, but I didn't.
Saturday - up early and off to sketch the mural. The scaffolding is way more comfortable to work on than a ladder. Once I finished the sketch, I had time to quickly catch up with Colin at the market, then grab a coffee and head to rehearsal. After rehearsal, I popped home to feed the cats and then headed out to Jay & Lisa's for a lovely roast supper. I stuck around to watch Galexy Quest which I had never seen before. It was awfully cute! I was pretty tired from a full day, so I headed home straight after the movie.
Sunday was a pretty full day of mural painting followed by a quick power-nap and then a production meeting and a rehearsal. I was beat when I got home at 10PM, but I stayed up anyway to finish watching season 3 of BSG.

Catching up
After a busy Christmas season, I still didn't have a chance to catch up with a few friends, so I took the opportunity to do that this week.
I stopped in to visit Brenda on Tuesday evening - brought along some recent knitted projects, and had a fantastic time visiting with her and her mom. I always enjoy Brenda - I love that she is so straight-forward about things - and her creativity is inspiring! One of these days, Brenda, I'm going to take you up on the offer to help me try making my own hat or corset!! As an added bonus, they lent me some fantastic vintage knitting books! If I can find the time, I'll post some photos of some of the fabulous projects that they contain.
I caught up with Kizzy on Wednesday evening. I saw her briefly over the holidays but we haven't had a chance to catch up in months. I must remember to lend her Season 1 of Battlestar Gallactica. One of these days, probably after I'm done the mural, I'm going to have to pop out to visit her and meet her new puppy, Moodie. As expected, when hanging out with Kizzy, I was still laughing about things a good 20 minutes after we parted ways. :-)
Thursday after work, I got a chance to catch up with Beth. I stopped out at her New Year's party, but it was nice to catch up with her again! I'm so lucky to have such wonderful and genuine friends!!

Because I didn't have enough on my plate...
I will now also be stage managing SJTC's "Crimes of the Heart" (March 19-21 at the Imperial). It will be a good show to work on (and thankfully it's not a musical). I enjoy working with Sandra, who's directing. Hopefully she won't get too tired of working with me all day at work AND on the show! :-)

Books, games and knitting... so what else is new?
I spent the first day of the new year alternately reading and napping. I started and finished reading The Life of Pi by Yann Martel, our current book club pick. It was interesting, and thankfully a fairly quick and easy read.
The remainder of my Christmas holidays were spent playing a fun eye-camera xbox game at Jay & Lisa's where you play a bunch of cheesy games and then it makes a fun & cheesy trailer, playing a much-needed game of D&D, hanging out a bit more with Jay & Lisa, and working on my knitting. I managed to finished my blue argyle lace hat just before heading to book club earlier this evening. Now, it's on to the sweater-coat I've been itching to make...

Welcome to 2009
It was a busy December as I raced to finish crafting Christmas gifts. The holidays have gone by quickly with a quick trip to visit the parents and a multitude of social engagements.
I knit a fun bobble hat for my mom as a Christmas gift,
a 1920's-style cloche hat (out of delicioulsy soft cashmere,
and another warmer winter hat.
It feels like it could be a very busy and productive year ahead. I hope it's a good one for everyone.
