Saturday, February 14, 2004 Valentines Vegas Gala Friday night was the Saint John Theatre Company annual Vegas Valentines Gala. It started at 7 with cocktails and a casino and silent auction. You could tell that the folks who put it together put a lot of work into it. I find gambling incredibly boring and there was nothing at the silent auction that peaked my interest, and it was getting late and I was getting hungry, so I was pretty happy when they announced that supper would be in 5 minutes. Except that it wasn't. For some reason, even though the food had been brought out, they had some terrible Vaudvillian performers (who were going to be at the Imperial the following night) come out and put on a bit of a show. By the time they were done, and we got to the buffet line, the food was cold. Yarr. At least the richard Kidd band was a nice treat during supper, even though the folks who were helping with the catering were pretty terrrible. One even came over and cleared Lisa's still full plate of mussles away. After supper, they had an auction, where Colin got tickets for us to see Death of a Salesman at the Neptune Theatre in Halifax, and a one-night stay at the Delta. After the auction, they listed the winners of the silent auction, then we got to listen to Tony Roma with the Richard Kidd band, and at the very end of the evening, they had another mini-auction with the play money that had been used for gambling - for a few SJTC items. I managed to score an assortment of SJTC swag (sweatshirt, fleecy vest, ballcap and travel mug). Posted by Dre at 11:59 AM |
