Friday Feast

Appetizer:
What is your middle name? Would you change any of your names if you could? If so, what would you like to be called?
My middle name is Nadine. I grew up being called Nadine and I hated it. Especially since we had lived in Quebec for a number of years and the French pronunciation of Nadine is something along the lines of Ned-zin. Of course, many English folks would give the "a" a really nasal sound and call me Naaaaadine. Did I mention that I hated it?

So here I was at the ripe age of 8 and we were moving to Edmonton. I remember finally broaching the subject to my mom of how much I hate my name as we were packing the car to move across the country. What a surprise when I found out that Nadine was actually my middle name and that I had a totally different first name! I couldn't believe that I'd managed to get through 8 entire years of my life without knowing that.

My parents told me that I could go by my actual first name, Andrea if I really preferred but I would not be allowed to keep switching back and forth. Not a problem. By the time we reached Edmonton, I was Andrea. It took a few years for a lot of my relatives to get the hang of it, and I still have some relatives who call me Nadine and I don't mind that at all.

Of course, my parents always pronounced my name as "on-dree-ah" and I still felt a burning hatred for the whole pronunciation with a nasal twang, so I spent years correcting people and trying to explain the pronunciation. By the time I was 20, one of my friends decided that it was too much work to correct people all the time so she started calling me by my middle syllable "Dre" and it stuck. But Lo-and-behold: the nickname "Dre" always needs to be explained. Go figure. Sigh.

Soup:
If you were a fashion designer, which fabrics, colors, and styles would you probably use the most?
If I was a fachion designer the world of fabrics colours and styles would be my oyster. Why would I limit myself to certain ones? I'm sure that each season I would go looking for new inspirations so my style would evolve regularly.

Salad:
What is your least favorite chore, and why?
My least favorite chore is cleaning the bathroom. Yuck. But it has to be done.

Main Course:
What is something that really frightens you, and can you trace it back to an event in your life?
Losing my memory. I guess. That would suck.

Dessert:
Where are you sitting right now? Name 3 things you can see at this moment.
I'm sitting at my desk at work. Other than the basic office supplies, I can see my string of colourful flower-lights, a handful of colorful polished stones, and my shoe calander.
