Friday, February 16, 2007 Shoop, Shoop! What a fun evening! Anthony pinged me near the end of the work day and wanted to know if I was interested in going to Poley Mountain to ski with him. Was I! I love skiing but it's never something I think of. We took off as soon as we could after work and made it to Poley by 6 and we were on the slopes by 6:20, he with his board, and I with a good set of rental skiis. It's a pretty decent deal for night skiing - a mere $27 for lift tickets and rentals after 4:30 PM. ($14 if you just need a lift ticket) I like the night skiing because it's not as busy. That means no lineups for the lifts, and the slopes aren't full of tons of people or carved up as much, even if only a few of the runs are open. Also, the view is wonderful. On a clear night like last night, you could see the stars and the outline of nearby hills in the background, and the lights of Sussex in the distance. Lovely :-) There was a cool breeze, but we'd both managed to dress pretty warmly for the weather, so all was good. I think next time I head that way, I'll make a point of bringing food with me. We took a short break to get some food at the lodge but they didn't have exactly the healthiest or best quality of food choices. At least downstairs. After our break, we got a few more really good runs in before they were directing us off the slopes. As a reward, we popped into the loung upstairs and enjoyed a tasty beer. Aww yeah. It was pretty packed there. I get the feeling a lot of locals like to hang out there. Good atmosphere, but we didn't stick around long. It had been a full evening and we were both starting to fade a bit and still had an hour's drive home. Thanks again, Anthony! It was a blast. I love the feeling of gliding along in full control on a pair of skiis. :-) Posted by Dre at 7:58 AM |
