Book Meme

In the list of books below, bold the ones you’ve read, italicize the ones you want to read, cross out the ones you won’t touch with a ten-foot pole, put a cross (+) in front of the ones on your book shelf, and asterisk (*) the ones you’ve never heard of.

1. + The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown) [good but it fell apart in the end]
2. + Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen) [love it. Read it a few times. Lent it to Kristi recently....]
3. + To Kill A Mockingbird (Harper Lee) [Classic and a great read!]
4. Gone With The Wind (Margaret Mitchell) [found the movie good but a bit tedious.]
5. + The Fellowship of the Ring (Tolkien) [read it numerous times, starting in high school.]
6. + The Two Towers (Tolkein)[read it numerous times, starting in high school.]
7. + The Return of the King (Tolkein)[read it numerous times, starting in high school.]
8. + Anne of Green Gables (L. M. Montgomery) [read it a couple of times and loved the series as a kid.]
9. Outlander (Diana Gabaldon) [thanks to Lisa for introducing me to Gabaldon... mmm... Scottish accents....]
10. A Fine Balance (Rohinton Mistry)
11. + Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Rowling) [what a fun series!]
12. Angels and Demons (Dan Brown)
13. + Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Rowling)
14. + A Prayer for Owen Meany (John Irving) [ugh. not a fan of his work.]
15. Memoirs of a Geisha [a great read and a great movie]
16. + Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Rowling)
17. Fall on Your Knees (Ann-Marie MacDonald)
18. The Stand (Stephen King) [I like the Dark Tower series and I enjoyed The Eye of The Dragon and The Talisman but otherwise, I'm not a huge fan of his work, mostly because he has trounle ending his novels, and I like a nice solid finish - or an awesome sequel]
19. + Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban(Rowling)
20. Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte) [love her stuff]
21. + The Hobbit (Tolkein) [of course! How could I read the LOTR series numerous times without having read this?]
22.+ The Catcher in the Rye (J. D. Salinger) [enjoyed it!]
23. Little Women (Louisa May Alcott) [was ok. put it down a fe times before eventually finishing.]
24. * The Lovely Bones (Alice Sebold)
25. Life of Pi (Yann Martel)
26. + The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (Douglas Adams) [I have the trilogy in 5 parts and a photographically illustrated version of Hitchhiker's. Love it! So much fun!!]
27. Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte) [I don't know why I never picked up a copy for myself. I'd probably read t again on a rainy day.]
28. + The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (C. S. Lewis) [read this series over and over since I was a kid.]
29. East of Eden (John Steinbeck)
30. + Tuesdays with Morrie (Mitch Albom) [loved it - it made me cry.]
31. + Dune (Frank Herbert) [I have the series. this is way more comples than the film, which was a bit slow....]
32. The Notebook (Nicholas Sparks)
33. + Atlas Shrugged (Ayn Rand) [preachy, much like The Fountainhead. There is a cult-like following with her stuff and I'm always intrigued by those who follow her philosophical doctrine. Not that I do.]
34. +1984 (Orwell) [was school reading, then read it again years later.]
35. + The Mists of Avalon (Marion Zimmer Bradley) [this and the sequel were good but a bit slow.]
36. + The Pillars of the Earth (Ken Follett) [my favorite book - a great historical epic tale!!]
37. * The Power of One (Bryce Courtenay)
38. + I Know This Much is True (Wally Lamb) [my mom gave this to me but I haven't read it yet]
39. The Red Tent (Anita Diamant)
40. + The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho) [too preachy for my tastes]
41. The Clan of the Cave Bear (Jean M. Auel) read it years ago on a gloomy weekend]
42. The Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini)
43. + Confessions of a Shopaholic (Sophie Kinsella) [fluffy and flat- felt like the heart was missing]
44. + The Five People You Meet In Heaven (Mitch Albom) [love his stuff - it always makes me cry.]
45. Bible [I've read bits and pieces]
46. Anna Karenina (Tolstoy) [read it years ago]
47. The Count of Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas)
48. + The Grapes of Wrath (John Steinbeck) [what a great read!]
50. + She’s Come Undone (Wally Lamb) [sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read]
51. + The Poisonwood Bible (Barbara Kingsolver) [I enjoyed this and the differenet perspectives, until about 3/4 of the way through and then I really didn't like the end.]
52. + A Tale of Two Cities (Dickens)
53. + Ender’s Game (Orson Scott Card) [I think I lent this to someone but I can't remember who]
54. Great Expectations (Dickens) [high school reading]
55. The Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald) [read it as a teen]
56. + The Stone Angel (Margaret Laurence) [I'll get to it soon enough]
57. + Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Rowling)
58. The Thorn Birds (Colleen McCullough) [loved the maxi-series]
59. + The Handmaid’s Tale (Margaret Atwood) [creepy and good!]
60. The Time Traveler’s Wife (Audrey Niffenegger)
61. + Crime and Punishment (Fyodor Dostoyevsky) [I enjoyed it]
62. + The Fountainhead (Ayn Rand) [preachy doctrine but glad I read it]
63. + War and Peace (Tolstoy) [started it once but got distracted]
64. + Interview with the Vampire (Anne Rice) [really enjoyed this series. well, the first few....]

73. + Shogun (James Clavell) [Absolutely LOVED this entire series!! Read it a couple of times and would love to read it again! I was so insired by Shogun that I did a samurai painting!]
74. The English Patient (Michael Ondaatje) [I enjoy his writing]
75. + The Secret Garden (Frances Hodgson Burnett) [read it as a teen]
76. + The Summer Tree (Guy Gavriel Kay) [Ah - the first in the series, The Fionavar Tapestry. Just lent it to Suzy. What a fantastic series. He's one of my very favorite authors - and is Canadian to boot!]
77. * A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (Betty Smith)
78. + The World According To Garp (John Irving) [I don't know why I keep trying to give him a chance when I find his work slow and dull]
79. The Diviners (Margaret Laurence) [read it year ago]
80. + Charlotte’s Web (E.B. White) [great kid's book]
81. * Not Wanted On the Voyage (Timothy Findley)
82. Of Mice And Men (Steinbeck) [love his work]

84. Wizard’s First Rule (Terry Goodkind) [been meaning to read his stuff]

87. Watership Down (Richard Adams) [I wonder where my copy went... I read it a few times. Twice on my own and then once for school as a kid]

91. + In The Skin Of A Lion (Ondaatje) [I like his stuff. This was set in Toronto in the early 20th century and was good although a bit odd as it went on]
92. Lord of the Flies (William Golding) [read it on my own then again for school]
93. + The Good Earth (Pearl S. Buck) [the good read]
94. * The Secret Life of Bees (Sue Monk Kidd)
95. + The Bourne Identity (Robert Ludlum) [read and own and love all of hs stuff! Got the bug for Ludlum and Deighton and Cussler years ago]
96. * The Outsiders (S. E. Hinton)
97. + White Oleander (Janet Fitch)
98. A Woman of Substance (Barbara Taylor Bradford) [fun]
99. + The Celestine Prophecy (James Redfield) [enlightening!]
100. Ulysses (James Joyce)

Huh. Only 64 that I've read. Nice to see a lot of my favorites in that list though...
