Monday, January 31, 2005 Weekend Update Friday night was a fun evening out, first at a work-related party and then at Martine's keg/birthdya party at the Somerset. I was coming down with a cold so I didn't stay too late. Saturday flew by. I realised I had actually come down with a cold, and I am thankful that we live in a day and age that we can take medication to mask the symptoms. Without Adviil Cold & Sinus I would not have been able to function well at all. Sigh. It figures - I always seem to catch something when I get really busy. That evening, I had a chance to go see a movie - even though I was tired. I saw In Goood Company (starrring Dennis Quaid, topher Grace and Scarlet Johanson) and I really enjoyed it. Sunday was one of the first days that we've had beautiful Winter weather. It was perfect for the skating party upriver (which was meant to occur on Colin's birthday but had to be postponed from the previous weekend due to a winter storm). I think I skated for a couple of hours before I finally headed in. It was nice to see everyone, and to finally get a chance to see Felix (Cliff and Shannon's adorable new baby). I had to leave a bit early so I could make it back to town for rehearsals. Photoshop Time reheharsals went well - we worked on scenes 2 and 3. Then at 8 PM, we had a full run-through of The Red Glove. It went quite well, even though there is still a lot to work on, so it'll be a busy week for all of us. After all, it's the week before we head into the theatre. Posted by Dre at 9:07 AM 0 comments Friday, January 28, 2005 Celebrations Galore Last night after rehearsal for Photoshop Time, a few of us met up at Churchills Pub to celebrate Jay's birthday. It was nice to see everyone, and nice to have a bit of a break. I haven't had very much free time lately. There is another birthday shindig planned for tonight - to celebrate Martine's 35th - Happy Birthday, Martine! I can't believe it's already the end of January - where does the time go? I have a feeling that I'll blink and it'll be mid-February. Posted by Dre at 9:04 AM 0 comments Thursday, January 27, 2005 Chilly & Busy I heard on the radio this morning that by next Tuesday it's supposed to be +8 and raining. I'm glad it will be a bit warmer than it has been lately (it's -22 this morning). The warm weather also means that there will be a ton of slush since we currently have waist-high snowbanks. There were more rehearsals last night. We're coming along with both shows. It's nice to see the improvements. Once again I thougt I'd game when I got home from rehearsals, but I just didn't have the energy. So I flipped channels for a few minutes then crashed. I had a tough time getting up this morning - I'm getting tired of being tired. I should be able to catch up onsome sleep tonight though! Posted by Dre at 9:11 AM 0 comments Wednesday, January 26, 2005 The Same I had rehearsals last night. so from 6:30 - 8:00, we blocked Scene 1 of Photoshop Time, and then from 8 - 10:15 we blocked scenes 1 and 3 for The Red Glove. Things are coming along well for both plays and we have a ton of rehearsals over the next couple of weeks, since we were a bit late getting started due to storms and busy schedules. More rehearsals are in the hopper for tonight, and other than that, I'm hoping to get to the gym right after work, and if I'm ambitious enough, I may even try to tackle my dishes after rehearsals. I wish I had more interesting stuff to talk about but I've really just been running between busy work days and a busy rehearsal schedul, and there isn't much else going on. Posted by Dre at 9:08 AM 0 comments Tuesday, January 25, 2005 Adjustments Last night we finally had our first rehearsal for Scenes 1 and 3 of The Red Glove. Tonight we'll work on blocking. When we were done, Suzy gave me a lift out to Sobey's at the mall ( the only place to get groceries after 10 PM) and I picked up a few necessities. By the time I got home and unpacked things, I was ready to call it a night - even though I really just wanted to play a bit more KOTOR II. Alas, it is a good thing that I went to bed when I did because I think I really needed the sleep. My lunch break today consisted of a trip to the hairdresser's to get highlights touched up and a trim. I'm looking forward to styling it myself to see what it'll really look like. I asked for a cut & colour that's a bit different from the usual, and I was thinking more chestnut, even though I seem to have a fair amount of red in it. Oh well - I can always change it! In the meantime I'm just looking forward to seeing how I cope with it on my own. Posted by Dre at 1:55 PM 0 comments Monday, January 24, 2005 A Nice Weekend Suzy had a dinner party on Friday evening, and of course the food was fabulous! It was really nice to see everyone again, as I haven't really had a chance to hang out with them since '04. Saturday was a busy day. I had rehearsals in the afternoon and then dinner plans (mmmm... Suwanna) to celebrate colin's birthday. Sunday was a snow day, which meant that any plans I did have got cancelled. I enjoyed hibernating and took the opportunity to catch up on a couple of things, and watch some Nip/Tuck (season 1) and get a little bit further in Knights Of The Old Republic: The Sith Lords. It looks like another busy day. I have lots of meetings so my work day will fly by. Then I need to shovel out my car - I've been informed that it is snugly ploughed in. Sigh. Then there are rehearsals this evening that I need to prepare for. And maybe when I get home from rehearsals I'll squeeze in a bit of gaming before I hit the hay. :-) Posted by Dre at 9:40 AM 0 comments Sunday, January 23, 2005 Stormy Weather It has been an eventful week weather-wise. Monday was a small blizzard - with about 15 cm of snow and winds of 30 - 60 km/h. The schools and most community group meetings were cancelled. Then Tuesday and Wednesday, as the city cleaned up from the blizzard, it was freezing cold with a nasty wind chill. Thursday was our second blizzard of the week. This time we got about 20 cm of snow and the winds were arouind 70 - 90 km/h. It was bad enough that even the malls, banks and most business closed down. And then Friday as we cleaned out from this storm, the temperature drastically dropped and continued to freeze us on Saturday. Now it is Sunday morning and I am looking out my living room window at our third blizzard of the week, where we are expecting at least 30 cm of snow and winds of 100 km/h. Lovely. Happy 40th birthday to Colin today! Posted by Dre at 9:04 AM 0 comments Friday, January 21, 2005 Snow Day Since I live about a block away from work, I had no excuse to leave early yesterday, even though half the office had cleared out by lunchtime. (I also had a tonto work on, so I took the opportunity to get as much done as I could without the usualy workday interruptions.) It was a bad enough storm that the mall, the banks, the gym, the market and even Tim Horton's all closed early. That also meant that any evening rehearsals for the Second Stage plays had been cancelled, and that left me with my first free/unplanned evening since the start of the new year. I've had a few other evenings off, but I've had plans for them in advance. I took advantage of my free time and cleaned my apartment, gamed for a bit and then read for a bit. I prefer to clean my apartment before the weekend so that it's nice and clean when I'm actually around more on the weekend, and so that i'm not using some of my valuable weekend time to clean. Posted by Dre at 9:07 AM 0 comments Thursday, January 20, 2005 A Night Off Last night I went to see Closer. Man - what a great movie. Hard to watch, painful, but great. And fabulous acting. Worth seeing. It was a real treat to have a night off - I think that may have been my fifth night of not working since the new year. Now I am happy to say that I am pretty much done with the work overtime, which is good because starting tonight I will be spending my time on the plays for SJTC: Second Stage. Posted by Dre at 8:39 AM 0 comments Wednesday, January 19, 2005 Another productive evening... I am nearly done my work project that I've been working on outside of regular work hours. I got a lot done last night and it felt great! Posted by Dre at 9:12 AM 0 comments Tuesday, January 18, 2005 Rent Last night I went to the Imperial to see Rent. It was awesome - a great story and an extremely talented cast. I really enjoyed the show. Unfortunately, I did spend most of the first half and part of the second half of the show struggling to understand what they were saying. I thought the music overpowerd the singing in the first half, and there were a couple of times that I couldn't see what was going on because I was sitting behind a very tall guy with a big head. So I got the gist of most of what was going on, but I know I missed some subtlies. Even so, I still thought it was a great show. Posted by Dre at 8:57 AM 0 comments Monday, January 17, 2005 Rockin' It Old-Style I went to Halifax on Saturday night to go to the annual Tour Tech Party with Renny and Harry. The crowd wasn't as dressed up as they had been in years past, so it was a good thing that I wasn't in the mood to get super dressed up for it. I wound up wearing a bright pink knit tank top with beads sewn into it and a pair of black dress pants. This year we got there a bit later than usual, so between that and running into a ton of people I only get to catch up with once a year anymore, the evening flew by. There were 6 bands on the B stage and 6 bands on the main stage, which included MIR, Glass Tiger, Harlequin and Prism. I am guessing that there was about 2500 people there. I was please as punch that there is no more smoking indoors, which has really bothered me in previous years. After the party started to wind down, a few of us headed over to Cheers until they closed. When I got home from Halifax on Sunday I unpacked and got straight to work on a few things that needed to get done for "The Red Glove". Suzy popped over and we discussed what her role as Stage Manager would encompass, and then I got to work on the contact list, homework list and schedule, while keeping one eye on the Golden Globes. Posted by Dre at 9:11 AM 0 comments Friday, January 14, 2005 A Hectic Pace I worked late last night on one project for work, then went to the first read-through for "Phtosohop Time" and then had the first read-through for "The Author's Voice". I think we have a great team and I am very happy with this cast - and now I can't wait to get started on rehearsals, but first I need to get my huge project for work out of the way. (My deadline is next Wednesday - and I can't wait for it to be all done!) After the rehearsals, I went back to work on my other project for work, and I lasted 'till 1 AM. Posted by Dre at 9:12 AM 0 comments Thursday, January 13, 2005 Yet Again Another night of working late but at least I wasn't stuck working on anything boring. To tell the truth. lately I've been working on some pretty cool stuff so I don't mind putting the extra time in at all. Unfortunately I can't say what I've been working on, but at least I've been enjoying it. Tonight is the first read-through for a couple of the one act plays. I'm looking forward to having a bit fo a break from work - before I have to go back in. I am glad there is a deaddline and that I should be back to a fiarly regular schedule soon. Posted by Dre at 1:57 PM 0 comments Wednesday, January 12, 2005 Valuable Time I was working away last night and I didn't have my watch on. I thought to myself that it must be around 11 or maybe even quarter after. Needless to say I was a wee bit off - it was something more along the lines of 5 or 10 after 1!! Eep. I don't know where the time went but at least it was a productive evening over all and I managed to accomplish a lot between work and the last round of auditions for the one-act plays. Today during my spare time (ha!) I'm trying to firm up the cast list for "The Red Glove". I'm very excited about this play and I can't wait to get started working on it! Now all I have to do is finish up this overtime hubub from work and I should be able to get back to theatre and going to the gym in my "free time". :-) Posted by Dre at 1:58 PM 0 comments Tuesday, January 11, 2005 One-Act Play Auditions Last night was the first night of the auditions for the next round of one-act plays (Feb. 10-12). I think we had 11 people come out last night, and I hope we have more tonight. Tonight is the last night to audition for this set of one-act plays. There are three plays and we need 22 actors to fill the roles. If we don't get enough folks out, we may wind up doing a bit of double casting. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how tonight goes..... Posted by Dre at 9:03 AM 0 comments Monday, January 10, 2005 What Weekend? Did we just have a weekend? If so, I must have missed it. I spent my weekend working. That's it. Now it looks like a week of overtime too, and a few hours tonight and tomorrow night auditioning folks for "The Red Glove", the one-act play that I'm directing. I'm glead my work deadline is the 18th so I can get back to more regular hours after that! Posted by Dre at 9:10 AM 0 comments Friday, January 07, 2005 Ack! Is it Friday already? Where did the week go? I just don't seem to have enough time to get all the things done I need to get done, even though I've been productive and even though I've been spending at least an extra 5 hours on work projects each evening. Well, I hope next week can be more productive for the stuff that seems to be falling behind a bit. On a good note, I have a shoe calandar at my desk at work, and each day there is a glossy pic of a shoe - either fancy ones, or historical ones. Today's shoe is beautiful and inspiring! Posted by Dre at 9:11 AM 0 comments Thursday, January 06, 2005 Valuable Time I am looking at my calendar and I really can't tell when my next chunk of free time will be. I am currently wrking on a project for work that is all going to be done in overtime, and starting next week I'll be getting started on things for the next round of one-act plays (I'll be directing one). The next thing I know it's going to be mid-February! I wish I could say more about the stuff I'm working on cause it's pretty cool, but some of it is "secret squirrel" stuff. When I am able to discuss it, I'll let you know! Posted by Dre at 9:02 AM 0 comments Wednesday, January 05, 2005 A Frustrating Coincidence So yesterday at work I got a number of phone calls from people regarding an apartment for rent. Finally, I asked one of the callers about the number that they'd called - and sure enough it was my work number - it wasn't as though it was mis-dialed. Armed with that information, I called the Telegraph Journal to find out about the ad in the paper for an apartment that lists my number as the contact number. It turns out that the number listed for renting that apartment is a 1-800 number and the remainder of the number is the same as my work number, but some people aren't dialing the 1-800 portion of the number. Argh! Frustrating as all-get-out! Posted by Dre at 9:08 AM 0 comments Tuesday, January 04, 2005 The Busy Grind I caved in and bought my own copy of Dance Dance Revolution: Ultramix 2 with the dance mat for my xbox. What a fun and exhausting game! I've also been spending some time playing Knights of the Old republic: Sith Lords and I'm really enjoying it. I wonder if this one is longer than the first KOTOR. I have an idea I'll need to put it away for a little while as things start to get busy with work and theatre again. I have a feeling that January is going to be super-busy. No doubt it'll fly by. Posted by Dre at 9:09 AM 0 comments Sunday, January 02, 2005 Welcome to 2005 I had a lovely New Years Eve. I grabbed my top hat and headed over to Lisa and Anthony's, where they had a few friends over. The weather was warm and windy and rainy, so any plans we'd had to party-hop between each other's places uptown were quelled. It was a mellow evening that mostly consisted of either karaoke in the living room or Dance Dance Revolution in the dining room. Either choice was pretty entertaining and I spent the evening wandering between the two. January 1st was a very productive day. I cleaned out a shelf of old magazines, thus making room for other books, and then I made room on another shelving unit to properly organize my DVDs. That took longer than I'd expected but the change was necessary as things were starting to pile up. I then tackled my room and cleaned out, re-organized and re-folded my clothes. By the time I'd finished, it was time for supper - I couldn't believe how my day had flown by! It felt great to clean some things out for the new year. Now I just have to clean my drafting table off (and find homes for the pile of things on it). I actually need to use the drafting table for a bit of work so I can't put this one off. As a matter of fact, I think I'll go do that right now.... Posted by Dre at 9:36 AM 0 comments |
