Huh

I've just tried a MagicTan for the first time. I was given a gift certificate to the Ambiance Day Spa and I'd decided to try out this popular tanning alternative. I figured what better time than while I'm on vacation. It's a unique smell that thankfully is barely there once you're done. It sprays a combination of bronzer and tanner, so even though I can already see a bit of colour right now, it should darken as the day goes on.

Vacation

I headed up with Jay to Patrick and Sharon's wedding in Grand Falls this weekend. It was a lovely ceremony and reception. They were staying at a lodge on a lake that was pretty cool.

Updates may be spordic at best as I'm on vacation and have been busy alternately doing errands and trying to remember how to be lazy.

Friday Feast #108

Appetizer
If you could have a free subscription to any magazine, which one would you like to have?
Communication Arts

Soup
Describe your living room (furnishings, colors, etc.).
My living room has a ton of stuff in it. it is full from wall-to-wall with book cases and shevling units. At the far end, I have my computer desk and drafting table and art supply cabinet. The bookshelves are in a variety of light wood tones. They are full of books, movies and mmiscellanious items. For seating, I've got a gold lazyboy and a futon that has arms that are prairie-style. My coffee table is curved dark wood with a glass top and is very modern-looking. I have a lot of artwork on the walls - most of it is my own. Essentially every spare scrap of space is used in that room. It isn't clutterd but it is cozy.

Salad
What does the shape of a circle make you think of?
Drawing.

Main Course
Name 3 things in your life that you consider to be absolute necessities.
Food, sleep, shelter.

Dessert
What was the last really funny movie you watched?
Noises Off. I'll be playing the part of "Belinda/Flavia" in the stage production at the Imperial Theatre in November, and I'd never seen the movie. My friends had it and invited me over to watch it recently. Only a couple more weeks until we start rehearsals....

All sorts going on

I went for a run with Anthony and then got home in time for a quick shower and bite to eat before Scott and Mare came over. Scott did a great job fixing up my Mac (thanks again!! - yay it rocks now!) while Mare and I watched a bit of RockStar: Supernova then played a bit of Animal Crossing.

Tonight I have a logo design to do for a friend. Now that my home computer is A-OK, I should be able to whip that off in a few hours. Have I mentioned lately that I'm looking forward to my upcoming vacation? :-)

Wednesday Randomness

I've started counting down days and hours to my upcoming vacation.

Thank you Mare - I ate all of those amazingly tasty Anise Drops while on a long conference call yesterday. Yes. All of them.

I've been enjoying spending a bit more time at home, hanging with the cats. They are cuddly once again.

Still very excited about Noises Off.

A nap would be lovely right about now.

Work is busy. Once again, I'm looking forward to a little time off. :-)

My parents had given me a couple of roasts that they had picked up from Costco. Last night I invited John and Melanie over for dinner and had decided to make one of the roasts. They come all set to just put in the oven as is. They are pork and chicken wrapped in bacon with provincial herbs. Anyway - dang tasty and easy to make!

Did I mention that I'm looking forwad to a vacation?

A Relaxing Evening

After meeting Lisa and Anthony at the gym, I headed home to do a quick tidy before Ann came over. We watched Layer Cake which was pretty good. Lots to keep you guessing. It starred that blonde fellow who's going to be the new Bond. I think he'll make a good Bond. I'm looking forward to Casino Royale when it comes out in November.

TotE Wraps Up

The Zoo Story

Friday night was the last night of the one-act plays. The guys were really on that night and we had a pretty good crowd. After the show, we packed up our stuff and moved the uber-heavy bench back to the loft. I decided to step out and grab one quick celebratory small draft with the guys before heading out to Kizzys. Turns out, by the time I got to her place, things were winding down, so I wasn't there for long. Still though, I'm glad I dropped out.

Saturday was errand day which resulted in a much -needed nap by the end of it. I woke up just in time to run over to the NB Museum to catch the Winging It portion of Theatre on the Edge. It was very entertaining! I hope we get more peope out to it next year! After that we had our cast party, which was somewhat mellow. I left early (2 AM) as I was pretty tired.

Sunday was a wonderfully lazy day. I did a tiny bit of tidying and spent the afternoon watching An Evening with Kevin Smith which was awesome. I then gamed for about an hour, then played with the cats, then re-read Noises Off. It was a great day. It's awesome to have a bit of free time again!

Friday Feast One Hundred & Seven

Appetizer
What color is your car?
"Indigo Ink" (navy blue with metallic flecks in the paint)

Soup
If you could wake up tomorrow with full training in another occupation and a job in that field, what would it be?
International translator. It would be great to instantly know a number of other languages.

Salad
How many times in your life have you had the flu (or something similar)?
Too many times to count. At least a couple of times per year.

Main Course
What is something that has happened to you this week that you didn't expect?
I bought a quart of blueberries that I hadn't planned on getting. Otherwise my week has been pretty much on track with what I expected.

Dessert
How old were you when you had your first kiss?
Ah yes - the good old first kiss question. I was in grade 7 and there was a boy who liked me who was in grade 8 who wanted to kiss me but he was really really nervous. So, he ran around the exterior of my house at least a dozen times then gave me a quick peck and then ran home and would never talk to me again. My first "real" kiss would have been near the end of grade 10 for me. I was 15.

Tech and Dress Complete

Last night, after spending a long while trying to get the sound working again, we finally ran a quick tech and then got down to running a dress rehearsal. I'm glad that we open tonight - I can't wait to see the shows run with the energy of an audience!

Theatre Happenings

Wow! Things have been busy.

Last night we had our tech rehearsal for the TotE one-acts at the NB Museum theatre, but due to a few small technical difficulties, our team was unable to do our tech last night.

So at 7:30, Alex and I headed over to the loft to be part of the reading of Angels in America: Millennium Approaches. Bet and I co-hosted and we were a bit concerned that there would only be four of us for the reading, but at 7:55, a deluge of people came up the stairs, and we wound up having 23 people at the reading. It was great fun! I think everyone who wanted to read got a chance to. Chad pointed out today that he only knew 6 people in the room, which really does show us how many new people had come out last night. I think the one thing that we should start doing for things like this is asking people to fill out a little questionnaire to let us know how they found out about it and if they want updates to future events etc., they could leave us their contact info.

Today over lunch I was happy to be a part of the official launch of the Saint John Theatre Company's Setting The Stage campaign. I was a tour guide to show people what we're planning on doing with the building that we've just purchased on Princess Street. I'm really excited about this building as it'll be a great asset to uptown Saint John. So, for those of you who know where the Lingley building is (next to the Princess Street Laundromat with the green and white tiles) this is the building that we have purchased and will be renovating. It'll be a wonderful change for that block!!

Tonight we've got our full dress (and tech) rehearsal for the one-act plays at the NB Museum's Mary Oland Theatre. We open tomorrow night and run through to Friday night. I can't wait for things to get rolling with these!!

Quickly

Natalie and Ben's NB wedding reception was awesome! It was great to see them and everyone else. The tent and landscaping were lovely and Natalie looked absolutely gorgeous! I wish I'd remembered my camera.

I have a cold so I'll apologize in advance for any coughing and sniffling this week.

Theatre on the Edge is this week! I can't believe it! The play reading for Angels in America:Millennium Approaches is tonight at 8 pm at the loft (86 Prince William Street, 4th floor) if anyone is interested. Readers and listeners are both needed. Also the Dance Collective portion begins tonight and is at the Saint John High School Mini Theatre and is at 7 PM. So - there's lots to do if you're free!

Friday Feast #106

Appetizer
Tell about a toy you remember from your childhood.
I had a lot of Barbies but I also had a few Sindy dolls, which are about the same size. One year, for Christmas, my parents bought the Sindy townhouse and all of the accompanying furniture and accessories for me. I mean, it even has silverware! The townhouse was actually taller than me when I first got it. Man it was cool! Needless to say I played with it for years.

Soup
If you could make one thing in the world absolutely free for everyone, what would it be?
Health care.

Salad
Approximately how many times per day do you think about your significant other?
Zero. LOL. I'm single.

Main Course
What is something you believe in 100%?
I believe that I exist.

Dessert
Name one thing you have done this week that you would consider a "good deed."
I picked up an item that a stranger had accidentally dropped and I returned it to them.

Random Things

I've really been enjoying running again, and I missed the Irving Nature Park. Had a great run with Anthony last night and felt like I could have kept going.

Rehearsals are really coming along for The Zoo Story. I'm getting excited about showing it to people. Gee - I hope they like it.

Work is busy.

With a tight budget this month, I'm making gifts for the weddings I'll be attending. It feels good to be creative again (other than theatre).

I've booke dtomorrow for a vacation day and boy could I use the spare time (errands, errands, errands!) so today is like my Friday - yay!

Yay - A Long Weekend!

We were free to leave work early on Friday so I headed home and made wonderfully productive use of my time: I took a nap! I eventually got up and got going again, and headed over to Jay and Lisa Miller's to hang out. It was Lisa's birthday so I brough along choclate cupcakes and Ben & Jerry's chocolate frozen yogurt. We wound up watching Noises Off - believe it or not I hadn't seen the movie yet. Man, I can't wait to get started on that show!

Saturday I had a good run at the Nature Park with Anthony. Since we're both starting out, we're taking it easy and running 3 & 1's. It was a wonderful day for it and we even encountered some porcuipines! On the way out, we saw one in a tree and another waddling down at the base of the tree. On our way back, I had just said to Anthony "I should keep my eye out for the porcuipines that were in this area." and just as I finished saying this I turned my head to look his way and saw the porcuipine sitting on the fence at my elbow. I let out a yelp, "Oh my God!" and veered away, just as the porcuipine put up it's defensive quills. it was a close call, but very funny!

The rest of the day flew by. I had rehearsal for The Zoo Story at 1 PM and once that was done, I headed to Joanna's for a tasty thai dinner. Unfortunately I ate something that didn't agree with me so I had to leave right after dinner. And of course, it was a quiet night in after that.

Sunday morning I headed to the gym for a full body workout with Lisa and Anthony. We even did some power sets once we got to arms and shoulders. It was a good workout! We then headed out to Suzy's awesome pool party. Boy did I need a lazy day in the sun! I don't think I'd had more than 15 minutes in they sun yet this year. Off to rehearsal again that evening. The guys needed to be off book by then and they were doing a great job. After rehearsal I was ready for bed, so it turned out to be another early night. Of course, I'd just spent an entire day either being active or in the sun, so I'd earned it.

Monday was a stat. holiday so I enjoyed the time off. I had another good run in the Nature Park with Anthony and puttered around my apartment for a bit in the afternoon. Jay and Lisa M invited me out for dinner (who am I to refuse great company and a free meal) and then I had rehearsal again that evening at 7:30. We worked on the second half of the play. The guys were struggling with their lines a bit more but we managed to get through it. I'm excited to see what an audience will think. After rehearsal I did a bit of reading (Noises Off lines) and then called it a night. And yes, I was up in the middle of the night listening to that awesome thunderstorm! My poor kitties, on the other hand, were less than impressed with the storm.

My day calendar has an awesome quote today:
"The secret of getting ahead is getting started." - Sally Berger.

Friday Feast One Hundred & Five

Appetizer
Name an actor or actress you think is totally underappreciated.
If I was asked this a couple of years ago, I would have said Philip Seymour Hoffman, but I think people have finally taken notice of his talents. Perhaps Mary-Louise Parker, who has been acting since the late 70's, or New Zealandar Karl Urban who is realtively unknown except as Eomer in Lord of the Rings. Yes - I think he's a cutie, but I also think he has potential (did you see The Price of Milk?) I just hope that he gets a chance to do something other than just action-roles soon.

Soup
Impress us by using a big word in a sentence.
If only I could enjoy the weal of the mellifluous sounds of an sempiternal summer!

Salad
What is something inanimate that you've given a name to (such as a pet rock)?
I named my car Armand. I always name my cars. My last one was Lola.

Main Course
What color would best represent your personality and why?
Purple. I'm not sure why.

Dessert
Fill in the blanks: ____________ is so ____________.
Getting involved in your community is so rewarding.

Been Busy

My days have been flying by both at work and out of work. I did take a little break last night right after work and picked up some Pad Thai and the DVD of Mrs Henderson Presents from the Quality Convenience and watched the movie before heading to rehearsal.

Things are coming along with The Zoo Story bit by bit. The guys have 2 nights off in a row now so that they can spend the extra time hammering through the text. They need to be off-book by Sunday and there are a lot of lines to learn. I'm confident they can do it.

It's going to be wonderful, my sweets!!

I could hardly wait for the reading of Noises Off last night, and boy, was it ever fun! I'll be playing the part of Belinda/Flavia. Belinda is very enthusiastic and positive and helpful and professional, and she plays the role of Flavia, the upper class British wife in the play within the play (which is called "Nothing On"). I'm really looking forward to working with this great cast! The read-through alone was a real hoot. There is a ton of precise blocking that has to happen with this show to make it work properly, so we'll have a lot of work ahead of us. We start rehearsals in September, and the show will run November 16 - 18 at the Imperial Theatre.
