Yay!

I only have a half-day of work today and then I am on holidays until the new year! I am glad I saved a bit of extra time so I can run around and get a whole series of errands done, such as getting my winter tires put on, finishing making gifts and wrap them, doing Christmas cards, etc.

I'm not sure how often I'll get around to posting while I'm off but I'll try to make an effort to.
Happy Holidays!!

Only 5 days until Christmas!

Where does the time go? Work has been crazy busy so my days have been flying by. Outside of work I've been pretty busy as well. Last night I spent the night in and working on a painting. I'm almost done. I can't wait to post photos of it - but you'll have to wait until after I've given it to its owner. :-)

I STILL haven't done Christmas cards. I did spend a bit of time last night trying to adjust a photo in Photoshop for it but I'm seriously lacking in space on my Mac so I kept getting messages that my scratch discs are full and I couldn't even save the changes I had made. Yarr. The photo is a Christmas photo of my kittens & I by the tree. I want to send it out to a few family members (and my parents want a framed copy for Christmas). Hopefully I can finish tweaking and printing it tonight. Hmm... now that I have stamps, I should just do the cards up ASAP and get that out of the way. They will be a bit late as it is. Ah well.

Weekend Update

Friday night I was pretty beat. I'd had an extremely hectic week at work and didn't really have the energy to do much. I thought about going out and getting some Christmas shopping done but I just didn' t have it in me. Besides, it was freezing rain. Ann stopped over right after work so I could do her hair and makeup for her for her work Christmas party. After that, I did a bit of cleaning and made supper, ate, and cleaned up. I spent about an hour working on a painting, and that's about it for my evening. I needed an early night.

Saturday was very full. I was up early and spent the entire day running errands and getting all of my Christmas shopping done. The mall was packed, of course. That kept me busy until supper time - where I went to Swiss Chalet with Colin. By the time I got home from supper I had a few minutes to play with the cats before heading out to Swayze Christmas #10. It was at Callahan's this year. I think I still prefer a house party. Especially since I'm not usually a fan of beer - and when I do drink it, I'm pretty picky about it. If you're not a beer drinker, there really isn't much other choice there other than coolers or bar shots. So I had about a drink and a half all evening. At any rate, it was a great opportunity to catch up with some friends - including a few that I haven't seen much at all this year. I was pretty beat so I didn't stay out to keep "partying" after the movie.

Sunday I tried to sleep in (as much as the cats would let me) and then met Colin for breakfast at Reggie's. Then I spent the rest of the day trying to get things done for Christmas. All the while, I had the TV tuned to TLC for their entertaining marathon of What Not To Wear. And that's about it. I STILL haven't done any cards yet this year and I still need to finish making a couple of things that I'd promised to people. I know my next few evenings will be full with that stuff. Man - I'm looking forward to having some time off!!

The Classic Dames Test

Myrna Loy

You scored 9% grit, 19% wit, 33% flair, and 50% class!

You are class itself, the calm, confident "perfect woman." Men turn and look at you admiringly as you walk down the street, and even your rivals have a grudging respect for you. You always know the right thing to say, do and, of course, wear. You can take charge of a situation when things get out of hand, and you're a great help to your partner even if they don't immediately see or know it. You are one classy dame. Your screen partners include William Powell and Cary Grant, you little simmerpot, you.

Check out The Classic Dames Test for yourself! Or, for the guys, find out what kind of classic leading man you'd make by taking the Classic Leading Man Test.

Friday Feast

Appetizer:
What is a word that your family uses that would not be considered common?
Slacks (that comes from living in Ontario - and I love some of the old-fashioned stuff)
uh....
and I know there are a ton of other words and sayings that I grew up with that are quirky but I can't seem to think of anything right now. I'll update this later if anything comes to mind.

Soup:
What theme of calendar do you have on your wall this year?
Current 2005 calendars as as follows: At home at my front entrance is a calendar that had old movie posters. At work I have a Far Side mini wall calendar and a shoe-of-the-day calendar. Every year at Christmas, my parents buy me the calendar for my home. I can't wait to see what they've picked out this year!

Salad:
Name 3 people you speak with on a daily basis.
Colin, Beth and Joanna. Although I generally don't chat with Joanna on the weekend unless we actually hang out together.

Main Course:
If you could put a new tattoo on someone you know - who would it be, what would the tattoo be of, and where would you put it on them?
I don't think I'd want to put a tattoo on anyone I know.

Dessert:
What is the last beverage you drank out of a glass bottle?
Yesterday at lunch I had a cranberry juice out of a glass bottle.

A Creative Evening

Last night was fun! Kristi and I grabbed a bite to eat at Swiss Chalet, then she came over to work on a painting while we watched Moulin Rouge. Love that movie. She started a new painting while I spent a bit of tie on one that I'm in the midst of. Always feels good to be creative!

Been busy

Not too much exciting going on lately. I've been busy trying to finish Christmas gifts and there seems to be a whole lot of social things going on this month - go figure. Work is busy so my days are flying by. I can't wait until I have a bit of time off. I need the break. Speaking of work, I'd better get to it....

Friday Feast

Appetizer:
Name something you'll miss about 2005.
It has been a great year. I'm not sure if I'll miss anything about it though. It has been a good year for making changes. I've added murals to my repetoire, I've started running (which I never thought I'd do), and I got kittens.

Salad:
What is one thought that went through your mind today?
The more hard work and effort you put into something, the more "lucky" you get when it comes to its success.

Soup:
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how compassionate would you say you are?
Maybe an 8? I don't think it's consistant though. A lot of it depends on how well I know you, what kind of mood I'm in, and if it's something that lines up with my value system.

Main Course:
If you could invent something, what would it be?
Whatever it would be, I would want it to be creative or artistic and it should inspire people to better themselves and be more loving and giving and tolerant.

Dessert:
Do you prefer salty snacks or sweet treats?
Mmm... salt! I LOVE the salt!!

Laugh-A-Minute

Last night was great! I had dinner at Churchills with Joanna and Colin - and decided to treat myself to theri Texas Sandwich (prime rib on Texas toast with lettuce & tomato & BBQ sauce) - yum! Then Joanna and I headed over to the Somerset to catch Improvisation Corporation. Man, were they funny! Great job guys! Once again, my face is sore from laughing so much!

I managed to snap a couple of quick pictures of some of my Christmas tree ornamets that make me happy - they have such personality!

Links of the Day

This commercial for The Gap is very entertaining!

Todays photo at Astronomy Picture of the Day is very cool. Check it out if you want to see what Europe at night would look like from space if there were no clouds and if you could see things with a little more contrast than in reality. It is a digital composite of archives satellite photos of Europe taken both durning the day and at night.

On another note, if you have a spare million dollars kicking around and have alwasy wanted the chance to bear one of Vincent Gallo's children, you can purchase his sperm here. Gross.

Tree Decorating

So last night I finally got around to putting the lights on my Christmas tree and decorating it. The kittens were mighty curious, and Grace even managed to climb pretty high up before I extracted her from the tree. The bad news is that the kittens seem to enjoy chewing on the lights and wires. I've tried using a citrus-scented spray to keep them away from the tree, but it doesn't seem to be enough of a deterrant. I've only put up about half of my usual ornaments - the chewable and fragile stuff is still safely tucked away in boxes. Thankfully I still have enough ornaments that it doesn't look bare. :-)

My tree doesn't necessarily have a theme. I know a few people who do and even a couple who do different themes every year. I wonder if they do that on a rotating basis. I'd imagine you'd need a fair amount of storage space for your Christmas decorations. When I first moved out on my own, I started decorating my tree with a combination of old ornaments that I'd gotten from my parnets and newer cheap ornaments. Over the years I've purchased a few unique ornaments here and there and I've managed to amass a collection of some pretty nifty ones! My parents have also done a great job at finding some pretty neat ones for me as well. Thankfully, most of these newer ornaments aren't the fragile type so I was able to put them up this year.

Weekend Update

Let's see... Friday night was a house party at Lynn's with a bunch of women from work. It was a blast - we did a Yankee Swap and ate and drank a fair amount, and then eventually wound up dancing in the living room to the new Black Eyed Peas CD.

Saturday flew by. I ran a few errands in the afternoon and even made it to the gym. Then made a nice healthy dinner and then headed over to The Blue Olive to watch Kizzy sing with Opa.

Sunday was chilly out so I didn't spend any mroe time outside than I had to. That being said, I did meet Colin at Reggies for breakfast, then spent the afternoon at the SJTC Loft as we did the readings of locally-written original one-act plays. I think we read 8 plays. It was a long and full afternoon, and it was refreshing to hear some good scripts get read. After the readings, I grabbed a bite to eat at Churchills with a few theatre friends before I headed home and finally managed to put up my Christmas tree. I have an artifical tree and it's a pain to put up and I have been procrastinating. Now that I have managed to clear a space for it and put it up, the next step will be to put the lights on it. My cats are curious about it but haven't been climbing it - yet....

Speaking of my kittens, they are 8 weeks old today!
Here are a couple of photos of Hunter (the tabbi) and Grace (the black and white):

Friday Feast

Appetizer:
When was the last time you did something you would consider courteous, what was it, and who was it for?
I held open a door for someone as I was on my way to work this morning.

Salad:
If you were to have a painting done of you alone, what would you want the background to be?
I don't think I'd wnt much other than a basic dark-neutral colour in the background, but I'd love if it were in the style of John Singer Sargent.

Soup:
Describe your voice.
Feminine. I've been told it's melodic. Who knows. I do know it gets pretty sharp when I'm upset.

Main Course:
What is something you would like to do, but you're afraid of the risk(s)?
There are things that cross my mind now and then - like moving or wondering if I'll ever be able to handle living with anyone else. But I'm very happy with how things are now so why would I want to change anything.

Dessert:
What was the last television show you watched?
I watched Inside the Actor's Studio on Sunday evening.

Movies I am looking forward to seeing:

King Kong of course. I've been watching the behind-the-scenes production diaries since they first started!

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Cannot wait!

Capote. Looks good, and I enjoy watching Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I'm a sucker for dance movies: Take The Lead

The Da Vinci Code. Enjoyed the book for the most part. Except for the last 50 pages. I hope the movie has a better flow.

OK Now I Can Get Started

Now that it is December I can finally get around to pulling out some of my holiday decorations. The cats are going to have a field day with this...
