This week is flying by

Monday was a busy day at work and stopped in at the gym for a full workout, then I spent the rest of the evening (pretty much) playing FFX.

Tuesday flew by. Work was again busy. After work I gamed for abit, then headed to the loft for the play reading of Scott's soap-opera themed play. It was very funny! After that, a group of us stopped in at Chruchills Pub and I had a bite to eat. After that, I went home and highlighted all of my lines in Streetcar.

Halifax Trip

I took Friday off and Colin and I headed to Halifax early with a pit-stop at the mall in Moncton so I could check out the new stock at RW & Co..

We had a very filling supper with my folks, then went over to visit Sue and Jed and young Jesse. Jesse is four months old now and is just starting to mimic people as he learns how to speak - what a cutie!

Saturday morning Colin and I headed into Halifax. We spent the day walking about downtown and popping into all sorts of stores. It was fun but tiring. When we checked into our hotel later that day, I needed a power-nap. We settled on having dinner at The Five Fishermen - fabulous food and service! Then we walked up the street to the Neptune Theatre to see their production of Death of a Salesman which was quite good. After the show, we stopped in at the Fireside Lunge for a drink then decided to call it a night.

Sunday we got up rather early and stopped in at the Patisserie at Hydrostone Market for a little something to tide us over 'till lunch. then we headed off to Sunnyside Mall in Bedford to meet up with Rob and Nicole (friends of Colin's) and have a smoothie from Pete's Fruitique. We picked up a few groceries while we were there, then headed out. We made sure to stop in to Chapters before we left for Saint John. Mmmm... Starbucks coffee.....

We were back in Saint John in time to watch Inside the Actor's Studio. I didn't have much energy for anything else. A bit of reading and that's it.

Crappy day

For multiple reasons this has been a stressful and shitty day. I hope yours is better than that.

Eek!

Check out Oral Disco - for a party in your mouth. LOL

Good greif - here's another "eye-catching" idea: Diamond Teeth

Ack!

Mental note: the breading on the sweet & sour chicken at Mings contains milk products. Yarr. I left work early and decided to go home and be sick in my own bathroom. Then I had a nap, then played a bit of FFX, then Colin came over and he tried out the PS2 for a bit while I did a bit of work on my Macintosh. I tried reading for a bit before I fell alseep but I only got a few pages in.

This week is so slow. It feels like it should be Friday.

Ready for Spring Weather

I've had enough of snow and slush and ice. I think we're supposed to get another 5 cm tonight. Sigh.

Usually the gym is extremely busy on Monday evenings - but last night it was fairly quiet. I wonder if those folks who started in January as a New Year's resolution have finally petered out. Lisa and I did the circuit together. I like our weights routine, even though I get frustrated by people who don't use the circuit area properly.

I bought a string of flower-lights yesterday and draped them over my computer monitors at work. They make me very happy.

Le weekend: highlights

Bought and played a fair amount of Champions of Norrath. I even introduced Colin to it, although he isn't a gamer so I'm still not sure how he felt about playing it.

Had a couple of very tasty dinners out with lot of people. Friday night was Ukranian cuisine on the Old Hampton road. Saturday afternoon was sushi in the Quispamsis Superstore parking lot, Saturday evening was a bit of a rushed meal at Taco Pica.

Saw Proof Saturday evening at the Imperial. It was great! Very touching, and very real. Congrats to those involved - especially to my friends Jay and Kizzy who were amazing on the stage!! You guys rocked! Colin and I popped in to the cast party but we didn't stay long - only a couple of hours.

Painted my bathroom. It's now light blue above the tiles. I think the colour was called "Metropolitan." It looks quite a bit better now than it did when it was a bland cream and white. Yay.

Friday Impatience

I'm glad it's Friday. Yes indeed. I'm itching for the work day to end. I'm going to run out to the mall after work to pick up Champions of Norrath. I hope to get a decent hour of gaming in before we head out to meet friends for supper. Colin and I are meeting friends at a new restaurant called "Mike's" on the Old Hampton Road. It's supposed to be Ukranian food. I'm looking forward to it.

The Friday Five

If you...

1. ...owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?

Healthy food. No deep-fried foods.

2. ...owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell?
Shoes. Yes. Shoes that are fun and awesome and funky. Not the normal stuff that they sell around here (at PayLess and Transit and Sears).

3. ...wrote a book, what genre would it be?
It would either be general fiction or a fantasy. It would have a strong female character, and there would be some sort of adventure.

4. ...ran a school, what would you teach?
Art history, graphic design, colour theory, information design....

5. ...recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?
Think Annie Lennox + Kylie Minogue. LOL

Geeking out:

Last night, Tom and Dave came over to do a bit of gaming. Tom brought along a few games, including the very addictive Champions of Norath, which I will have to pick up for myself. (I love games where you have items to collect... and the controls aren't too difficult to figure out.) Then Lisa popped by and joined us for a while. We played a little Def Jam Vendetta and then introduced the guys to SSX 3. Dave was in shock that girl gamers actually exist - and here in Saint John no less! I guess he didn't expect to see Lisa and I trash-talking each other while pulling out the fancy combo moves as we played Def Jam Vendetta.... No, Dave, you were not on candid camera!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

I saw Spartan last night. It wasn't bad. I enjoyed it. There were a couple of things towards the end of the movie that I thought they could have changed. but still - I found it entertaining.

Before that, I introduced Colin to the Simpsons Road Rage on my PS2.

My Dwindling List

I have a list of things to do and it seems like it's a mile long. Some of the items have been there a long time and some are fairly new. Some of them are pretty big and some are small. I like lists. Without them I tend to forget about items, or I'll be scared that I'll forget them, which just stresses me out. Lists help me organize my thoughts.

Yesterday I managed to strike an item off of my list that had been there for a long time. I picked up my stained glass panels. Today, I'm working through a few more list items - get the car serviced, a hair appointment, and this evening some house cleaning and re-organization. It feels great!

Lots Going On

Friday evening I snuck in a one hour nap after work, then ran over to the Imperial to do makeup for The Vagina Monologues. It was just Pam and I, but we weren't rushed, which was good. Then Colin picked me up and we went around front to see the show. We both enjoyed it. By the end I was pretty hungry. We met up with Lisa and Anthony and headed to Churchills for a drink and a bite to eat.

Saturday morning I made it to the gym for a full workout, even though I didn't have much energy. (I was hoping it'd give me some.) Then Colin and I had a tasty brunch at Reggies and I stopped at home to drop off my gym stuff and get my gorcery list. I found out from my mom that My Aunt Jessie is going to come from Saskatoon to see A Streetcar Named Desire. Yay!! I then headed out to run a few errands. I didn't get home from running around until 5:30 PM! Between the Superstore which is busy and still under construction, and the loads of traffic and all the folks at the mall, I was pretty worn out. I spent some time designing the logos for The Uptown DownLo and Stuck in Heels but I didn't have the energy to finish drawing the shoe in the Stuck in Heels logo. Colin came over around 9 and we watched the first half of To Live And Die In L.A. - I didn't have the energy to stay awake and finish watching it.

Sunday I got up early and headed over to Lisa and Anthony's to edit Stuck in Heels. That took me until 12:30 or 1 PM. I was wiped. Anthony needed his computer back so he could do some work. I asked him to edit the rest of the show. Even though it wasn't going to be as fancy as we'd hoped. I think next time, Lisa and I should try to do all of the stuff for the show within one day. Right through to the final editing. I'm also wondering if one show a month will be about all I can handle. I then decided to take a short nap, waking up at 3:30 when Colin called. He picked me up shortly thereafter, and we went upriver to hang out with Bill & Dawn and Shannon & Cliff (and all the pets). The company and food were fabulous. We left at around 9 PM and saw 2 deer on the road on our way home. I went straight to bed.

Today has been a busy day. My morning flew by, and at lunch Colin gave me a lift over to the west side to pick up my stained glass panels - which had been out to be repaired for about two-and-a-half years.. They fixed one small panel, but never got around to the two larger ones. They were nice enough to not charge me for the work they did on the small panel. It's good to have them back. I can live with the broken peices of glass in the larger panels.

I'm ready for a nap, but there won't be time for it today. I have a busy afternoon at work, then a trip to the gym, then I'm meeting some of Colin's friends for dinner. Hmmm... unless I nap instead of going to the gym, and I get my workout in tomorrow....

Almost the Weekend

Yesterday was fun. The folks in our office spent the afternoon curling. I hadn't curled in, um, 16 years, I think . Anyway - I could barely remember it. The rest of my team was pretty much in the same boat - and we wound up being the worst team of the day, but at least we had fun. I don't think I'll be curling again though. It's too hard on the ol' system.

I made it to the Imperial theatre at 6 PM to do makeup for the Vagina Monologues, and I was out of there by 8:30. I'll have to post a few pictures from that when I get a chance.

Both Survivor and The Apprentice were good, even though I could hardly stay awake for them. I must've gotten more of a workout from curling than I'd expected.

Finally a winner - or am I?

If you live in Canada, and especially, if you live in the Martimes, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who didn't know what a Tim Horton's is. Here in the Maritimes, these coffee shops can be found pretty much everywhere. As it is, from my office, I can walk to one of three Tim Horton's within a couple of minutes. I am personally not too fond of their coffee. They are much like a Robyn's Donuts, only, their coffee is so much more popular that I can't even think of the last time I saw a Robyn's.

Each Spring, for a couple of months, Tim Horton's rolls out it's annual "Roll-up-the-Rim" campaign. If the coffee itself isn't addictive enough to keep you coming back, the thought of having a chance of winning is. The cups claim that your odds of winning are 1 in 9. Not bad, if you are looking forward to getting a free donut or muffin or cookie now and then. They have a handful of larger prizes; cash prizes, plasma TVs, bicycles, and pick-up trucks. Makes you want to go out and buy a coffee, doesn't it? Well, it does for the folks in my office. It also makes them buy more than usual. A co-worker was telling me about someone he used to work with - who had a stack of used cupps cluttering her desk. She'd had 52 coffees and still hadn't won anything. She was determined to hang on to her cups until she won something - anything. I can't imagine what her desk would have smelled like. We have a stats list on our whiteboard. For the record, on my 14th cup of Earl Grey tea, I've finally won a prize! Yes indeed - I feel lucky! And yet I'm not sure that I even really want that donut I won.

Meh...

I had a great workout at the gym after a long day at work. Lisa was there and we did the circuit at the same time. Then, I went home and washed my hair, then had supper, then gamed for half an hour or so. At 9, Colin came over and we headed out to see Starsky and Hutch. It was OK. Stupid-cute. Could have been a lot better, but oh well.

This afternoon I'll be curling with folks from work. It'll probably totally aggrivate my knee, but it beats sitting at my desk alone. Yee-ha.

Was Hidalgo based on a tale or a true story?

The New York Post questions whether the movie Hidalgo was based on the a true story or a tall tale. no matter - I still thought it made a great movie!

Congrats!

Congrats to some of my friends who got parts in this years Summer Shakespeare production, King Henry the IV, Part 1! Kristi will be Lady Percy, Alex will be Hotspur, Scott will be Gadshill, and Richard Roy will be Falstaff! I think it'll be a great show with all that talent! I can't wait to see it!!

I had a slowish day at work yesterday. After work, I popped into Coles and contemplated buying a few books. There's a new Guy Gavriel Kay book out, The Last Light of the Sun. It's a fantasy genre, and I've enjoyed the rest of his books and I'm excited that he's come out with a new one. I'm also interested in The Princes of Ireland by Edward Rutherfurd. He writes historical fictions that follow families through many centuries. Then, of course, I'd also like to pick up Dancing Barefoot by Wil Wheaton. I've been reading his blog and I really enjoy his writing. They don't have it at the Coles here, so I'll probably try to pick it up at Chapters next time I'm near one. While I was browsing, I also eyed One Hundred years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, which is an Oprah's Book Club pick. Alas, I left the store without making any purchases because I was feeling overwhelmed by all the great books to choose from. LOL

I had time for a quick meal when I got home, and then I had to run over to the Imperial Theatre to do makeup for the dress rehearsal of The Vagina Monologues. It looks like it's going to be a good show! By the time I got home, I was pretty tired. I've been doing quite a bit lately, and not getting to bed as early as I'd like, so I decided to try to catch up on some sleep and I hit the hay at around 10.

Quelle Surprise!

I had another busy evening.
I went to the gym after work, and found many frustrations - from people not booking the cardio equipment properly, to people not using the circuit area properly, to people not cleaning off the machines after they've used them - even though there are paper towel dispensers every 10 feet and disinfectant spray at each machine. Yarr!

After the gym, I rushed hom and dropped my stuff off and made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and headed over to Scott and Karen's for the play readings. I wish I'd had time for a proper meal. I was craving healthy food, such as some nice grilled chicken and steamed veggies with rice or a sweet potato. We read Scott's play first. It was called "Photoshop Time" and was about graphic designers and somewhat typical situations regarding their work lives. Then we read John's play which turned out to be a more serious reading than he'd imagined. I still thought it was good - it just depends what he's looking for in a play. After that, we read Anthony's play about dealing with the ashes of a man who'd lived a different life in his younger years and had wanted his remains scattered at Miscou. I hope Anthony keeps writing plays - I thought he did a good job.

Once the readings were done with, Scott was kind enough to make some apple crisp for those of us who stuck around. It was delicious :) On my way home, I popped in to visit Colin for a bit. I was pretty tired. I wanted to stay up and read for a bit when I got home, but I just didn't have the energy. I also felt pretty gross - probably from having too many sweets. Oh well - I don't eat like that all the time.

Weekend update

I met up with Kristi and Lisa for a couple of drinks and dinner at Churchills after work on Friday. Later that evening Colin and I watched 2 more episodes of season 1 of 24.

Saturday was very productive. I went to the gym with Lisa and Colin and managed to do a full workout. The afternoon was spent filming the sketch with Lisa for The Uptown DownLo - thanks to Kristi and Ryan for starring in it. Colin came over for supper and I tried a new recipe: south seas squash - take a butternut squash and cut it in half and cook it. Then prepare a mixture of pineapple, brown sugar, rum, butter, cinnamon and a pinch of salt and mix it together and spoon it into the squash center and stick it under the broiler for a few minutes... mmmm... tasty! We watched the remaining 7 episodes of Season 1 of 24 on Saturday night. Glad we're done! It's exhausting watching so much TV!! I don't want to watch episodic TV like that for a LONG time!

Sunday was another busy day. After a big breakfast at Reggies, I spent the afternoon with Lisa and our special guest, filming an interview for The Uptown DonwLo. then I napped for an hour, gamed (SSX 3) for an hour and by then it was supper time. Colin and I had a tasty meal at Swiss Chalet and then we went to see Hidalgo with Colin's cousin David and his wife Mary-Gwen. I enjoyed the movie. It was good. Nothing spectacular, but good. Just what I needed for a Sunday evening of relaxation. After the movie, I went home and re-read the entire script for A Streetcar named Desire.

TGIF

Last night was very productive. After a full workout at the gym, I was walking home with Lisa and we ran into Anthony. We decided to have dinner together at D'Amico's. Then I stopped in at home for a couple of minutes and then headed over to Lisa and Anthony's so Lisa and I could woork on our show for StuckTV. We started out with a game of air hockey, then fgot down to work. At 9, I went home and Colin came over. While Survivor was on, I typed up the script for our first sketch. We then watched The Apprentice. Captivating show. Because I'd had a pretty intense workout at the gym, I was feeling a bit sore and tired, so I decided to call it an early night.

The exciting life of a designer:

After a hellish day at work, I went home and spent two hours putting together the SJTC newsletter, and then an hour-and-a-half trying to get it to print to PDF properly (I was having font problems).

I'm having a busy (yet better) day at work today, and it looks like I'll be having another busy evening; gym, meet with Lisa, watch The Apprentice, work on my studioDRE business cards while listening to Survivor.

Avoiding Overload

So I've decided not to audition for the Summer Shakespeare festival, since I won't really have any time to get involved with it. There are only a few parts for women, and I heard that rehearsals start in May, and I'll be super-busy with Streetcar until the end of May. I feel a bit bad about it because I am interested in it, but I just don't have the room to put another thing on my plate. I know I'm going to want a bit of a break in the Summer.

I had dinner with Martine last night. We went to Appetite and had a tasty meal, even though they were very slow. It was nice to catch up with her. I got home and decided to hit the hay early. I need to catch up on my sleep.

Work is stressing me out today. I am looking forward to hitting the gym this evening to releive some of that stress. Yarr.

Is it really only Tuesday?

I'm already looking forward to the weekend.

I made it to the gym last night for a full workout. It was busy and there were a folks who weren't using the circuit area properly, which was pretty frustrating. I figured a workout would help get rid of my crankiness, and I did feel a bit better after I went, but I was still a bit cranky. I spent the rest of the evening trying to relax by watching some mindless TV and then gaming for a bit.

An Eventful Weekend

I took Friday afternoon off so I could drive to Halifax while it was sunny. Colin and I piled up the car and we left Saint John by 12:30. We were looking forward to a nice relaxing drive. Little did we know - it was storming from Moncton through to Shubenacadie. Yarr. It was quite the fight with the wind and visibility. We got to Dartmouth (where it was clear and there was barely a breeze) a little later than I'd hoped. There's still tons of snow there - even though it's melted and compacted a lot over the past week. Here is a small pic of my parent's driveway:
Halifax snow

Friday evening we had a fabulous dinner with my folks, and then headed out to visit Sue and Jed and Jessie (who's growing like a weed). It was great to see them! While we were there, I got "the" call from Stephen that I'd gotten the part of Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire (May 27, 28, 29 at the Imperial). Yay!!!!!!!!!

Saturday morning, Colin and I met up with my folks at Costco. As I expected, I found a few treasures there and spent a bit more than I'd intended to. My folks gave me a very nice bracelet that they'd picked up there - I felt extrememly spoiled!

Colin and I continued to do a bit of browsing at some other shops around Bayers Lake and I was on the hunt for a digital camera. Well - I am happy to say that I found one! It's an Olympus Stylus 300: 3.2 megapixels, and 3x optical zoom, with a lithium battery and a recharger, and I got a free carrying case with it. Yay! Finally!! The small pic above is one of the first shots from it. Super-easy to use!

Colin wanted to check out a hot sauce store in Lower Sackville so we headed out there. This guys runs this hot sauce business out of his basement and sure knows his stuff. He's quite the entrepeneur too and was totally trying to upsell Colin on buying one of his other businesses. And - to top it off, he had some pretty stylin' Kenny Logins-type hair.

We got back with enough time to show my folks the DVD of The Doomsday Clock and then have another huge and delicious meal. I took a short nap and then Colin and I headed out to see Twisted - which was HORRIBLE! Don't bother to go see it - don't even bother to rent it. One-dimensional characters, terrible script, boring, predictable, all around bad, bad, bad.

Sunday, we got up faily early and had a huge breafast with my folks (yes - they love to feed company) and I gathered my stuff (included my laundry which my mom did for me - feeling spoiled again). Colin and I left at about noon, and we stopped in at Starbucks on the way out of town. The drive was WAY better than it had been on Friday. It was sunny and clear and rather warm. Around Shubenacadie there were lots of cars lined up and parked on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere. We looked to our left and saw a huge backhoe excavating the side of a snowy hill. There, piled deep in the snow, was an 18-wheeler almost on it's side. It was facing the same direction as us - which was opposite to the traffice on that side of the highway. An amazing site to behold! It has been there since the big storm last week, and just now they're trying to dig it out. It looked like a toy that had been casually tossed aside.

We kept driving, and as we got to Truro, we saw a hitchhiker - and recognized him! It was John! He'd decided he needed to get out of SJ for a break so he'd hitched to Halifax for the weekend and was just trying to get home. It was the weirdest thing to see him there. Of course we picked him up and gave him a lift home.

By the time I got home I was pretty tired - and I was craving a nap. I forced myself to unpack though, and by the time I was done that, Colin came over and we had leftovers from the weekend for supper. We watched Ben Kinsley on Inside the Actors Studio, then the last hour of Spaceballs (which Colin had never seen), and then the Oscars. It was a fight to stay awake to watch them. I was really looking forward to hitting the hay - especialy since it didn't finish until 1:15 AM. Yarr. Colin had gone home - and he called me to remind me that I needed to move my car to the other side of the street (ah - the joys of uptown parking). So I went out and moved my car, and bumped into Lisa and Anthony on the street. Anyhoo - it was a late night. Too late for my tastes. I somehow managed to get up early this morning and for the first time in a long time, made it into work a couple of minutes early.
