Friday Five

You have just won one million dollars:

1. Who do you call first?

I'd probably call my folks.

2. What is the first thing you buy for yourself?
The first thing I'd do is pay off my debt then I'd probably buy the car I'm leasing.

3. What is the first thing you buy for someone else?
I'd take my boyfriend on a vacation.

4. Do you give any away? If yes, to whom?
I'd help my parents out.

5. Do you invest any? If so, how?
I'd invest most of it. Probably RRSPs and some stock of some sort.

The Houseguest

Last night I made a salmon dinner and invited Colin over, then washed my hair, then headed to rehearsal.

After rehearsal, my houseguest came over. Chloe, Tom's cat, will be staying with me for the weekend. She's a sweetie. Thank goodness for Clariton. Chloe spent the evening exploring my apartment. She's affectionate but not clingy and she still has all of her claws. She should be good company this weekend.

Colin stopped by to watch The Apprentice with me later in the evening. I enjoy the show - but I also find that it stresses me out a bit.

Squeaky Clean? Not Even Close

Squeaky Clean? Not Even Close: "'A sponge that's been in use for no more than two or three days in a kitchen will harbor millions of bacteria,' said Elizabeth Scott, co-director of the Simmons Center for Hygiene and Health in the Home at Simmons College in Boston. That's a problem, she said, 'if you pick up the pathogen or a pathogenic E. coli, salmonella or campylobacter on the sponge.'"

Mmm.... gaming

I was cranky yesterday. Most everything got on my nerves. Was just one of those days. A good cardio workout helped a bit, and then I spent the evening playing Primal, even though I have a lot of productive stuff I could or should be working on.

Ticking along

Wow. A week from now we'll have dress rehearsals for Doomsday Clock! I responded to some questions last night for someone who's doing an article on The SJTC: Second Stage in "Saint John Weekend", which I think is in Friday's Telegraph Journal. Writing isn't my forté, so it took me a while to compose. Hopefully it'll be OK.

I cleaned up more artwork for my online portfolio last night, and then I gamed for a bit. I'm back to trying to finish Jak and Daxter.

If you have some time, this is a very interesting read: Confessions of a Car Salesman

I wonder how it compares to dealerships around here....

Oscar nominations today

Wow - LOTR got a ton of Oscar nominations. Good for them!

I find it frustrating that in Saint John we get movies like Kangaroo Jack or Cheaper By the Dozen for many weeks, but we haven't had a chance to see the following films (wich are all Oscar-nominated, and which I'd like to see); The Cooler, 21 Grams, In America, Monster, Pieces of April, Thirteen, The Girl With The Pearl Earring, City of God, The Barbarian Invasions, Dirty Pretty Things, and American Splendor.

Had a quiet evening in last night. Too cold to go out anywhere. Today's a busy day at work. Perhaps I'll work on my portfolio this evening.

Weekend update

My cold is getting better. I took it fairly easy Friday night and skipped the sledding party portion of Colin's Birthday celebrations. I met up with everyone after and we hung out at Shannon and Cliff's for a bit.

Saturday - ran a few errands, took a nap, saw Mystic River, hit the hay early.

Sunday - saw Win a Date With tad Hamilton! (total chick flick fluff - my only real complaint was that Kate Bosworth's character was WAY too naieve). Then did John's play reading and read a play dan had written. that was fun. Then a quick supper followed by rehearsal for Doomsday Clock. It went well. Progress feels good.

Busy day at work today, with most of my day spent in an all-day meeting. It'll be a busy work week.

Been Busy

I finished Beth's caricature - and she loves it. Yay!

I'm sorry that my comments aren't working. there seems to be a problem with that system. I'm thinking of switching to Haloscan soon. Very soon. Arg.

Work is keeping me busy - enough that I worked late last night. I love being busy at work. Way better than trying to look busy and having the days drag by.

I STILL have my cold, although it's just starting to get a bit better today. I can't remember the last time I had a cold that made me cough so much.

Rehearsal went well last night. Only 2 weeks 'till the show now. Wow.

Happy Belated Chinese New Year! It is now Year of the Monkey.

Happy Birthday, Colin!

Overlap?

There was a snow-ban last night in the uptown peninsula. That means, if you have residential on-street parking, you need to move your car into a snow-ban lot between 6 and 11 PM, so that the city's works crews can clear the streets overnight. Now, you have to have your car out of the lot by 7 AM, but you are also warned not to park it on the streets before 7 AM, otherwise you could get a ticket. Why on earth is there no overlap?

Due to my hacking cough, I haven't been sleeping so well. So last night, when I got home from work, I was pretty tired. I decided to have a little nap, and I woke up 2 hours later! I guess I needed it! I also spent some time yesterday evening working on Beth's caricature. I just have a wee bit left to do on it tonight. I hope Beth likes it - I can't wait to show her!

It was a busy evening

Monday evening was a productive one. I was starting to feel a bit better, so I went to the gym for a bit of cardio - and didn't cough all that much! Then I stopped in at the loft to pick up my hat (which I'd left there the night before) and on my way out, I ran into Lisa and Anthony. They were on their way to Churchills for a bite to eat, so I wound up joining them. Their pub food is excellent. After supper, I went home and did my dishes and started working on a caricature for Beth, who's in the Vagina monologues and needs a one done for the program. The Colin came over and we watched Las Vegas, which was a repeat that I hadn't seen, then we watched the second episode of The Apprentice, which Colin had taped last week, and then we decided to check out The O.C. which people have been raving about, but I don't think I'll make a habit of watching it.

Winter Wonderland

It was snowing "movie snow" on my way in to the office this morning. Love that.

Saturday evening, Colin and I went to see the early show of House of Sand and Fog. It was very good, and very depressing. After the show we stoppined in at a going-away party for a friend of Colin's. We didn't last too long as neither of us were feeling well.

Sunday was quiet. I spent the afternoon cleaning up files on my computer and working on my online portfolio. We had a rehearsal for Doomsday Closk that evening. It was a bit flat, but I'm sure things will be better at our next rehearsal.

I still have my cold. Argh. I have SO had enough of this. I just want to be better. Sigh.

Sweet Saturday

Auditions for Streetcar were last night. I was starting to lose my voice, so it was a bit of a challenge. I hope I did OK. I'm not sure when we'll hear if anyone got a part of if there will be another round of callbacks. Thankfully, they were gracious enough to let me read first so I could leave early. Colin and I had tickets to see the Ballet Jazz de Montréal at the Imperial. They were FABULOUS!! Wow. It was perfect. Wish we had more of that around here, but I'm glad it at least comes through Saint John.

I woke up this morning with NO voice at all. That was an interesting surprise to wake up to. After a big glass of water and a lot of coughing and hacking I've managed to mostly recover it. I'm currently powering through a ton of freshly squeezed orange juice in the hopes that it'll help drive this nasty cold out of my system. I think I am generally starting to feel a bit better today. It'll be good to try and get my rest this weekend. That should help too.

I made a small change to my site today. Got rid of the rotating pics on this page. They're still on the "About Me" page. The pic on the left is a self-portrait I did in about 1995 or 96.

TGIF

I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. I thought I was starting to feel better yesterday, but lo and behold, my cough has settled in my chest, and I now feel nauseous on top of things. Yippie.

Rehearsal went well last night. The building that the loft is in, where we rrehearse, had another water pipe break, so the main entrance to the loft was closed off. I met Jay and Kristi and Tim downstairs at Mexi's. Poor Lisa was too sick to come, so we spent the evening working on the scenes that she isn't in. Jay gave us tickets to sell for the One Act Plays (Friday Feb. 6th or Saturday Feb. 7th). They're only $10 per seat and you'll get to see an evening of 4 great original one-act plays at the NB Museum in the Mary Oland Theatre. If you're interested in getting tickets from me, please let me know. It's good to get them early, as we have been known to sell out.

Today is another busy day at work. I love being busy and productive! I'm hoping that, as the day wears on, I'll start to feel better. Tonight are auditions for Streetcar and I'd like to be able to focus on my scene and hopefully do a good job. After the auditions, Colin and I have tickets to see Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal. I'm really looking forward to seeing that. It was one of my Christmas gifts from Colin. :-)

Chilly & Busy

I stayed in last night. I didn't dare brave the elements. That gave me a chance to work on my scene, do a bit of tidying, and call it an early night. Colin came over for a bit and we watched The Apprentice and The Bachelorette. I think they'd be fine as background shows in the future as I worked on other stuff, but I wouldn't make a point of setting time aside just to watch them.

It's another chilly day today. Work is very busy, which I enjoy.

Brr!

-25ºC, feels like -41ºC. Eek! A good day to avoid outdoor activity.

Colin and I saw Big Fish last night. I enjoyed it. I think it's a good date movie. I spent a bit of time working on my scene. Then I hit the hay early. That's about it. I'm trying to get my rest and my vitamins to get rid of this cold as soon as possible.

Fuzzy

Felt (and sounded) horrible yesterday. I went home and had a nap at lunch, and I spent the day at the office working with my coat and scarf on. Not because it was necessarily freezing at my desk. But because of this blasted cold. I got home, still not able to warm up, and took a long hot shower, followed by a long hot bath. My apartment wasn't warm enough, so I turned the oven on and heated it up a bit. Then I spent some time going over the script for the callbacks for Streetcar. The audition is on Friday. they are willing to accomodate me so I can go first, so that I'll still be able to go see Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal at the Imperial with Colin. I somehow managed to cook a healthy supper for myself, and I enjoyed it since I could still taste things a bit. I'm glad I'm not at the point where everything tastes like cardboard. Around 9:30ish, Colin came over and we watched Las Vegas. I still enjoy the show - but I found it to be WAY too predictable this week. What were the writers thinking? I hope it's better next week.

I'm at work in my coat and scarf again today. I was a bit late getting in, but I still took time for lunch. I met up with Lisa, who's also not feeling 100%, and we got soup and salads and fresh squeezed OJ at the market. It was a nice break. I have a ton of stuff to try and get done at work. No doubt the afternoon will fly by!

The Nest Egg

There was an article in the paper when I was in Halifax that talked about these folks in Sackville who have a business of carving designs onto the shells of unfertilized emu and ostrich eggs. The photos in the paper were great - and intriguing. You can see some of their work on their web site, Warwick Designs.

The weekend flew by

I drove to Halifax Friday evening. Did a bit of laundry and then hit the hay.

Saturday I did a bit of shopping and then went to a matinee with Sue. We saw Mona Lisa Smile. It was OK. Nothing spectacular. After the movie, Sue came out shoppping with me. I was hunting to a particular birthday gift for Colin, but couldn't find it anywhere. But at the end of the day, I found something else that I eneded up picking up for him. After shopping I had dinner with the folks and then got ready for a night out. Renny and Harry picked me up at about 9:30, and we headed to the annual Tour Tech East party. It was good this year. There were (I think) 12 bands in 2 sound stages, and a few thousand people. Kim Mitchell was the big name this year. And Crush were better than ever. They're sounding very good now. I enjoyed myself. I ran into quite a few folks who I only get to see at this party once a year, and there were a few folks that I haven't seen in a few years. I got home around 3 AM. Way past my bedtime.

I drove back to Saint John on Sunday afternoon. After that, I grabbed a nap for a bit, and then headed out to a production meeting for the One Act Plays, Then at 7, we had rehearsal for Doomsday Clock. That's going well. I love seeing progress, and even now, as we go through the play, we're able to tighten things up a bit more each time. After rehearsal, I hung out with Colin. We watched a Michael Jackson special that he'd taped, and we'd planned to watch an A&E special, Behind the Scenes of LOTR: Return of the King, but it was on at 11, and I couldn't stay awake.

I woke up this morning with a full-fledged cold. I'm currently drinking freshly-squeezed orange juice from the Market. I think I may go home and nap at lunch.

Indeed

It is dang cold out for the Maritimes. -23ºC and with windchill, it feels like -37ºC. Don't forget to layer.

Had terrible service at FutureShop last night. Or lack of service might be a more appropriate term. Stood in line to make my purchase, with another 5 or 6 people. The teller for the one cash that was open was working on some sort of issue for the guy at the front of the line, so he was over at the customer service desk. We stood there for a full five minutes, as other employees walked past or stood at a back counter chatting. What does it take for someone to come and open another till? I was tempted to leave the items I wanted to purchase and get them elsewhere. Eventually someone made it over to the cash and opened a second till. When we left, the poor fellow at the front of the original line was still waiting for his stuff to be processed.

Colin and I had a lovely dinner at Mike's after that. Mmm... onion rings, beer, steak. Yum! After that it was home to finish backing things up on CD. I also spent a fair amount of time going over Doomsday Clock in preparation for our first real rehearsal which is this evening.

Just looking at the upcoming movies for Saint John and it doesn't look like we'll be getting Big Fish. Sigh

Dress Warmly

It's chilly outside today. Comparitively speaking, of course. If I was in Winnipeg, this would be a balmy winter day. I heard that it's supposed to be cold right through to the weekend. Great.

Let's see.... yesterday I took a late lunch and got my hair coloured, and another 2 inches taken off. It's feeling much more manageable now. After work, I headed home to enjoy a bit of time playing SSX 3 in surround sound. Then Colin came over and I showed him the ropes to the PS2 and started backing up stuff on my computer. I ran out of disks. I'll have to pick up some more after work today. The good news is that my computer is working fine again. Yay!

Mmm... IKEA

I decided to check out the online IKEA catalogue for a computer desk and some shelving and I actually found what I'm looking for - and - the price is right. Hmmm... I wonder how much shipping will be.... OK, so I'm thinking a few of the Järpin Shelves with Bjärnum Brackets, and a Mikail Computer Table. compact enough for the tiny space I have to work with....

Totally Tuesday

Yesterday evening was great. Right after work, Colin came over and we had pasta. I loved the sauce he brought. I forget what kind it was, but mmm - it was tasty. We then headed over to Kent Building Supplies so I could take a peek at shelving for my CDs, now that I plan to move some things around in that corner of my living room. I didn't find anything I liked. After that, we were off to see an early show. We saw Cold Mountain. It was great - a rollercoaster of emotions. Very well-cast and well-done. I can see some Oscar nominations coming out of that movie. The movie didn't get out too late, so we had time to watch an episode of Las Vegas that Colin had taped while we were out.

It looks like another busy day at the office today. This is good - my day will fly by. I think I might take tonight to try and get a few errands done....

Weekend Update

So Friday was a long day at work. I have a deadline for Monday and I was hoping to finish it, but I wasn't able to. Sigh. I went home and started rearranging my living room so I could install my new home theatre system. It was good post-work therapy. After a few hours of that, I gave up and headed over to Cliff and Shannon's with Colin. Clif made a "6 Minute" chocolate cake, which was lactose-free and very tasty. It was a relaxing and entertaining evening.

I got straight back to work on my living room on Saturday morning. It turns out I had to re-wire, and re-arrange a lot of the shelving in my apartment so that I could have the home theatre system up and running properly. I can now watch DVDs and play PS2 in blissful surround sound!

Saturday evening was dinner at Suwanna's to celebrate Jeff and Cliff's birthdays. That was tasty and fun and relaxing. Colin and I were both pretty tired after the big dinner, so we decided to call it a night pretty early.

Sunday was another day of working on my apartment. I did some more tidying up, and I started looking into the corner of my living room where I want to put a computer desk. I'll have to do some more rearranging to fit it in there.

I turned on my computer at home and it seems as though I have a virus on my Mac. Sigh. I'll have to find an evening this week to back up all of my files. Then I may need to re-install the OS. I hope not. Oh well. I also managed to get some grocery shopping done on Sunday. And I found a cute top at Winners. After groceries, I popped into Staples and looked at computer desks. It started to stress me out, so I gave up and will look again another time. I also need to find some shelving for my CD's and old cassettes. Fun, fun. Sunday evening was a great trip upriver for another very tasty supper and great company and hot tubbing. It was a perfect way to end the weekend!

So the office is back to normal today. Everyone looks well rested after their 2 week vacations. I have a lot to work on to keep me busy and to make my work day fly by. So I'd better get at it....

Happy New Years!

I've been busy. Wednesday was New Year's Eve. I worked a long day and was worn out. When I got home I took a shower to try to feel refreshed for the evening. It helped. Colin and I headed up river for the evening. We had a great New years Eve, full of great company, tasty food, air hockey, a bonfire, and hot-tubbing. I think I crashed just after 4 AM.

We all slept in a bit due to the late night. After breakfast, we hung out for a bit and then headed back into town around mid-afternoon. Colin helped me take my Chirstmas decorations down. It feels great to have my place back to normal. I still have a bit of tidying to do, but that'll be tomorrow. I also need to figure out how to set up my home theatre system. I will have to rearrange some of my shelving units to make room for it. I hope to do that this weekend.

I'm back in the ofice today. There are 5 of us here, so it's pretty quiet. I have a ton to do still, so I'm glad it's still quiet.
