Friday's Feast

Appetizer:
Name 3 things that you think are strange.
1.) humans, which are part of
2.) nature, which is part of
3.) the universe, which is endlessly strange and fascinating and complex and incredibly cool.

Soup:
What was the last ceremony you attended?
Well, there was the thank-you speeches, etc at the Sight Unseen cast party a couple of weeks back....

Salad:
What is one lesson you have learned in the past year?
Don't take on so many things at once. Now it's just a matter of trying to follow that advice....

Main Course:
Tell us about one of your childhood memories.
It was 1977 and I was watching TV in the living room. My mom was in the spare bedroom and she had been sewing some new clothes for me and she asked me to come in for a fitting. I remember turning the TV off when I left the living room - to save the spot where the show was at - so I didn't miss any of it. When I came back and turned it back on, the program was in the middle of commercials. And that's how I found out that I couldn't pause TV. Of course we live in a pretty different world now. It's pretty amazing how many technological advancements have happend in the last 30 years....

Dessert:
If you could extend any of the four seasons to be twice as long as normal, which season would you want to lengthen?
Summer. I love the heat. Of course, I'd probably change my tune if I lived in a different climate.

Mixing It Up

Last night there was a little mixer at Sebastian's for young entrepeneurs in SJ (under 35). I headed over with Joanna. The speeches at the beginning were intersting and inspiring. The mingling I'm not so good at, but I did make an effort to talk to at least a few other people. We didn't stay long. I had to get back to work. Yep. worked till midnight.

Now today I'm mixing my usual work stuff up by delving into dealing with things outside of my usual realm - namely anything more complicated than basic HTML, considering I don't even do that too often anymore. I was sure I'd have to work tonight, but it looks like I'm at the point where there's nothing I can do until tomorrow. Thank goodness for that. I'll feel a million times better once this stuff is done with. Ah - there's nothing like stretching the boundaries of your 'norm' every now and then, eh?

Crazy Busy Week

Monday night was a SJTC: Second Stage Play Reading of The Illusionist which was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the story and the characters, and it was nice to see all of the folks that came out. After that, they played the movie Waiting for Guffman but I didn't stick around for that as I had some overtime to do for my day job.

Tuesday night I took a run out to FutureShop and picked up Memoirs of a Geisha and watched it while I made and ate supper. It was as fansastic as I remember! Then I came back in to the office to put in a few extra hours. On my way back in, I found a cell phone laying in the middle of Germain Street. I actually wound up getting ahold of the owner and was able to return it to him. By the time I got all of that sorted out, I was starting to lose steam, so I didn't get as much work done as I'd hoped. Ah well - there's always the weekend. ;-) (I have some big work deadlines this week.)

Otherwise, all is well. I'm still loving my new glasses and Hunter and Grace are as cute and cuddly as ever.

Mom's Visit

My mother took the bus from Halifax to SJ to visit me for the weekend. We started off with meeting Colin and Joanna for a drink at Churchills on Friday evening. Then we headed out for a bit - and rented Capote. But we were both pretty wiped from full weeks, so we called it a night at 9 PM!!

Saturday was a full day of shopping, we got back to my apartment in time to relax for an hour before heading out to supper at Billy's. We had intended to see a production by NB Theatre at the Imperial but mom was starting to get one of her headaches and I was feeling pretty wiped at any rate. I'm not used to the power-shopping like that! So we headed home after supper and climbed into out PJs and watched Capote. Very good film. Very interesting.

Sunday we decided to do breakfast at Reggie's and ran into Colin there. Then we spent the afternoon doing a bit more shopping and running some errands (groceries included). We ate in and watched Pride & Prejudice and Pollock. It was a good chance for mom to see some movies that may be a little "artsy" or slow for dad's tastes.

Throughout the entire weekend, Hunter and Grace were a constant source of entertainment and amusement. I'm sure mom will have a ton of little kitten tales to regal dad with as soon as she gets back to Halifax.

And that was about it. for me, it was a bit of the calm before the storm of this work week.

Friday's Feast

Appetizer:
How would you describe your personal comfort zone?
Well, there's the comfort zone that surrounds me when I am out in public that only friends and family can enter comfortable. I'd say it's about a foot and a half. Then there are places were I feel very comfortable - like my apartment and the SJTC loft and the Imperial. Places where I am familiar with the surroundings and I have confidence in my actions.

Soup:
What is your favorite tree?
I am a fan of all arbours... ;-) but I prefer hardwoods. I'll put my vote in for Maple. They are beautiful and I LOVE maple syrup!

Salad:
List 3 foods you'd like to include in your dinner plans for tonight soon.
Salmon, maple syrup (now that it's on my mind) and broccoli.

Main Course:
What is the best advice you've ever been given, but didn't heed?
"You should sign up for the stock options."

Dessert:
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being highest), how much attention do you feel comfortable receiving from others?
Oh - probably a 9 - LOL. (I am a bit of a thespian afterall. I think we all have a bit of a showboat side to our personalities.) And of course I prefer positive and honourable attentions. That should go without saying.

Suddenly Super Busy

I have a massive amoutn of work work to do before the end of next week, which means I'll be putting in some overtime in the evenings. And my posts may be a little shorter.

I will, however, be taking the weekend off as my mom is taking the bus from Halifax to visit me! :-) Yay!

A Quiet Evening

Mid-evening, I met up with Colin and Joanna at Churchills for a bit last night. It was good to catch up. Joanna was nerrvously awaiting news on a cottage she is looking into purchasing, so the distraction was probably good for her :-)

After that I headed home to what I though would be the final section of DragonQuest VIII. Well, for one thing, the level was much larger than I'd anticipated. So that took me a fiar while to clear out. Then it led to what looks like the actual final chamber. I decided to take my characters back to town and do a bit of alchemy in preparation for the big battle. I need to go hunt down a certain monster and hope that they drop a cerrtain item that I need for the item that I want to make. So, knowing that I still had a lot more ahead of me than I'd originally anticipated, I decided to put the game away for a bit and put on Carlito's Way. I got about half way through it before I started to doze off, so I just shut things down and hit the hay.

My kittens were super-cuddly this morning. It was a real treat, but it made it that much more difficult to get up and head in to the office.

Sushi Samurai

Do you remember that classic console game, Burger Time? Well CBC kids site has a version called Sushi Samurai where you can make sushi! It's an excellent time-waster!!

Monday Night Movie Night

I picked up a couple of new movies for my home collection last night. Well - at least it started out that way. I got American Psycho and Carlito's Way at Blockbuster for really decent prices. Then, when I popped in to HMV, I came across a collection of 12 movies (an one extra CD) by Oliver Stone for only $50! It contains (if I can remember correctly) the following movies; Salvador, Platoon, Wall Street, Talk Radio, Born on the Fourth of July, The Doors, JFK, Natural Born Killers, Nixon, U Turn, Any Given Sunday, and America Undercover.

When I got home, I settled in to watch a movie called Water that Joanna had lent to me. It was fantastic! It is set in the 1930s during the rise of the independence struggles against British colonial rule, and it follows the plight of a group of widows forced into poverty at a temple in the holy city of Varanasi. Totally worth checking out - it is really well done and is a very moving film.

Weekend Update

For the most part, my weekend was filled with the production of Sight Unseen. The cast party was a mellow one - par for the course for this smaller show, I suppose. Thanks again to Emily for being such a great help with both wardrobe and props!

Sunday I tried sleeping in a bit and spent the day running errands (groceries, etc.) and tidying my apartment. I had a quiet evening in and played a bit of Dragon Quest VIII. I'm getting towards the end. I think I'll have to make sure I'm all stocked up on skills, weapons, armor and supplies before I go in to this section which looks like it could contain the final boss.

Friday's Feast

Appetizer:
What job would you definitely not want to have?
I would not like to work in Waste Management.

Soup:
Oprah calls and wants you to appear on her show. What would that day's show be about?
It would be fun to be a part of a makeover show, but then I'm happy with how I look and dress. Perhaps it would be a chance to me to surprise my parents or some friends. Or oooh - I would love to have Nate come in and fix up my apartment! I have a pretty small place and a ton of stuff. I'd love to find a way to re-organize my bedroom so that I could find room for a larger bed. but still be able to store all of my clothes and shoes and have a "dressing area". It's only 9' x 10'.

Salad:
Name 3 vegetables that you eat on a regular basis.
broccoli, spinach, green beans

Main Course:
If you were commissioned to rename your hometown, what would you call it?
I have no idea. I'd want to come up with something that invites people to move to this area and help develop it.

Dessert:
If you had a personal assistant, what kind of tasks would you have them to do?
Laundry, groceries, cleaning, cooking, running errands and reminding me of things on my list of things to do. I suppose I'd be better off hiring a maid when I come to think of it.

Opening Night of Sight Unseen is Tonight!!

We had the Student Dress-Rehearsal for Sight Unseen last night. From a costuming perspective it seemed to go very well. A big thanks to Kizzy for helping out!

I'm still trying to catch up on my sleep. I've been so wired after the shows that my brain just won't stop when I get home. Last night I was up until about 1:30 again. And I remember waking up at 3:30 for a good hour as well. Perhaps I just should have gotten up for a bit, but then that would have resulted in the kittens getting wound up for a couple of hours....

I've really enjoyed being a part of this show. In a lot of ways I can relate to the character of Jonathan as an artist. The scenes where he defends his artwork really hit home. I've had those conversations countless times, even with family members. I think there are many layers to this seemingly simple script that engage the audience to think. I hope we get a decent turnout - it's worth seeing!!

New Glasses!

I got my eyes checked this week and I got a bit of a prescription change so I put an order in for some new glasses. I had found some great new frames at Hakim optical and their prices are great so I got a deal for 2 pairs. The first pair came in yesterday. (The other set should be ready by the beginning of next week- they take a bit longer as they are partially rimless.) They are heavy and rectangular full-framed and plastic with metal arms. they are a dark brown and they have rhinestones on them! AND - on the inside, they are tiger-print! They are fun and they make me very happy!!

Monday was Cue-to-Cue for Sight Unseen

Getting back to the office and trying to work at a computer was tougher than I thougth it would be. Still, I managed to get through the entire day yesterday.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do too much in the way of relaxing last night. We had cue-to-cue for Sight Unseen at the Imperial last night. I tried out Amber's hair for the first time. I am happy with the style (severe yet artsy) but I need to pick up a couple of styling products - namely hair pomade or wax and a strong spray so it won't move. I then spent the remainder of the evening washing some of the costumes, doing a little bit of ironing and setting things up. It was a pretty full evening as everyone was there until midnight.

When I got home I was still wide awake for quite a while and it took me a long time to fall asleep. This is unusual for me: I usually can fall asleep within 30 seconds flat. I was also up bright and early this morning. I wonderr if I'll need to run home for a nap at lunch....

Belated Friday Feast

Appetizer:
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how intuitive do you think you are?
I think it depends on the situation. If it has anything to do with a fellow showing interest in me, I'd say I'm a 1 or 2. I usually don't get subtle hints.

Soup:
What is your favorite kind of gum?
Depending on my mood, I like Hubba Bubba Classic (such a sweet treat but so much tooth rot), Thrills (hard to find), or Dentine Ice Spearmint flavour. I'm actually not much of a gum-chewer. I might go through two or three packs in a year.

Salad:
Name a CD you own that you would never get rid of.
Saint Germain: Tourist

Main Course:
When was the last time you said something you didn't mean?
I have no idea. That's something I try not to do.

Dessert:
What is the sum of the numbers in your birthdate? (Example: 3 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 9 = 31)
21

Back at work

I had to take some time off last week as I couldn't sit in an office chair for any amount of time (let alone in front of a computer). So I spent the better part of last week trying to get some sleep and watching some DVDs. I even gamed a bit (yes - more Dragon Quest VIII which is a very long game.) My back and neck are doing a lot better. I still can't lift anything heavy, or hold any wieght above my head, and opening doors and drawers is a bit difficult, but I can turn my head again and I'm good for some walking around etc. It'll be an extremely busy week so I'm glad I'm feeling better!

On Tuesday, I got my eyes tested for the first time in a few years and I have a slight perscription change. I've ordered a couple of new pairs of glasses and I can't wait for them to come in! I love getting new frames!!

I've also managed to gather the remainder of the costume pieces necessary for Sight Unseen (which is this Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night at the Imperial). Thanks to Brenda for saving the day with a fantastic suit and blazer for Scott. I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of shopping for things when it means that I have to look through a ton of bins or racks. But I did have fun doing a bit of power-shopping with Scott on Saturday morning so we could find some jeans and shoes for his character. I can't believe the show is this week!

The Jam-Packed Weekend and More

FRIDAY evening was wonderful. After a long week at work, I met up with Colin adn Joanna for a couple of glasses of wine at Churchills. And - as a wonderful surprise, Beth (who wasnt able to make it out) had called the pub and paid for our first round!! What a sweetie - thanks Beth!! :-) We started to feel peckish so we headed over to Joanna's and made home-made pizza (with lactose-free mozzerella-style goats milk cheese). Man - it was awesome!!! I'm already craving it again. It was a very nice evening of tasty wine, tasty food and great company.

SATURDAY afternoon, Joanna offered to come along with me to Frenchy's on the west side so I could find some costume pieces for Sight Unseen. Unfortunately, we got rear-ended on the way over. Thankfully there wasn't much damage to the car (at least from what I could see). I'm bringing it in tomorrow to get it looked at. Since I'm leasing, I have to get any damages repaired. And yes - I got the contact information from the person who rolled into me. Joanna is A-OK, thank goodness. She was leaning forward and just got thrown back into the headrest. I'm currently enjoying a little bit of whiplash - thank goodness for seatbelts though. Joanna said I just cleared the steering wheel. Whew! :-)

Of course I was still in a bit of shock and not feeling too bad Saturday evening, So I headed over to Lisa's for "Girl's Night" and watched Dirty Dancing. I still get embarrassed for Baby in so many parts of that movie - but the classic Swayze balances it out nicely. Afterwards, we checked out Carmen Electra's "Strip-Tease Exercise Video" which was pretty tame but a bit naughty and amusing. And - no - there wasn't any actual stripping except for the removal of a hoodie.

SUNDAY I was feeling a bit more stiff & sore. I knew I'd at least pulled a couple of muscles in my neck. It was a long but very productive day as Stephen and I dealt with all of the callbacks for "The Crucible" and we managed to finish casting the show. Right after that, I headed out to get some kitty litter and while I was out I decided to treat myself to a double leg dinner with fries from Swiss Chalet. I got home, ate the entire meal and got started calling folks regarding the callbacks from that afternoon. In between calls, Kristi managed to get ahold of me to let me know they were doing a surprise b-day dinner for Brenda at Suwanna. So, of course I couldn't resist stopping out. I figured I'd order some food, not eat it and save it for the next day. Ha - silly me - as if I could resist their amazing food. I wound up having another entire meal!! LOL. After dinner, we stopped back at Kristi and Ann's for a bit and I could feel myself starting to get a little more sore again so home I went and watched the rest of the Oscars while lying in bed.

MONDAY I woke up feeling a bit better - and I was optimistic. I knew I'd pulled a couple of muscles and I still had that headache at the base of my head but I wanted to be OK so I could get back into a more regular running regime. Guess I'm maybe not feeling as well as I thought I was. I went home mid-day and took a shower and a hot bath and more Advil Extra-Strength and laid in bed for a bit before coming back into the office. I called my doctor to find out what I should do. She is away this week for March break so her assistant told me that I needed to get to the Hospital to get checked out to make it official. I put it off for a bit but I headed over after supper. Turns out I do have whiplash but it's not that bad. I just need to avoid sitting in an office chair for a few days, and I need to keep listening to my body.

So that bring me to today - where I've stopped into the office for a few while by perscription for pain medication is being filled at Lawton's downstairs. Then I'm heading home to get comfy and get a bit of rest if I can. It's a goregous day out there - enjoy it if you can!!

Friday Feast

Appetizer:
How many pillows and blankets do you sleep with?
1 pillow, 1 sheet, 1 duvet.

Soup:
What are you currently "addicted" to?
I don't think there is anything at the moment. I know - not a very exciting answerr but it's true.

Salad:
If you could make a small change to your current routine or schedule that would make you just a little bit happier, what would it be?
Yes - I'd love to get up and get going a bit earlier on weekdays. Of course, that would mean going to bed earlier and that's not really a compromise I'm willing (or sometimes able) to make.

Main Course:
Which adjective do you find yourself using often?
Wow - I don't think there is one that I use all the time. At least, I haven't noticed.

Dessert:
Have you ever picked up a hitchhiker?
No. Wait - unless you count Colin and I picking up John Mazzerole by the Truro overpass on our way back from Halifax. But I'd never pick up a stranger.

The Counter, The T-Shirt, and The Good Movie

As of this morning, the cats have finally figured out that they are able to jump up on the counter. Sigh.

For work they gave all of the folks in the Marketing department T-shirts that they requested we wear today. OK - I can deal with that. The frustrating part about it is all they had were extra-larges. So when I got home last night, I pulled out the sewing machine and altered mine so it actually fit me. I figured it was worth the 1/2 hour of work so I wouldn't be grumpy about swimming in a "sack" all day. My condolences to all of my co-workers who are dealing with their gi-normous t-shirts today.

On a good note, I rented Pride & Prejudice last night - the new one. It was a very good version of it and I thought Keira Knightly did a fantastic job. I also thought that the cinematography was unique and wonderful. Worth watching. Heck, worth adding to my collection.

I Scored Some Free Potatoes!

Yesterday after work I went home, fed the cats, and crawled into bed for a 2-hour nap. I woke up when Colin called to remind me to move my car (to the other sie of the street, as per uptown residential parking laws). So I got up and headed out to Value Village, where I found a sweater and a top for Beth's character in Sight Unseen. I was very happy with my finds. I headed straight over to the rehearsal hall so I could try them out on her and see what Shane thought. He approves - yay! That menas we now have one of her entire outfits nailed down. On my way home from rehearsal, they gave me the potatoes that Beth's character had peeled. Score! I went straight home and made potatoes and carrots and pork chops - yum! And - I have enough for leftovers for tonight!
