Friday Five

1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?
Sure.I'm not too much of a browser or window shopper. I prefer to go and get things that I already know I want to pick up. Also - I find that shopping tires me out, and walking in a mall is hell on my legs and back.

2. What was the last thing you purchased?
I bought the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Soundtrack.

3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
I'm not too comfortable shopping online. I'll only do it if there's something specific I want that I can't find anywhere within reasonable driving distance. Oh, and with clothing I like to be able to try things on first.

4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?
I did. I had a list of chores I had to do in order to earn it. Uh - I can't remember how much it was.

5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?
Hmm... I can't remember if there is anything that I've purchased that I've regretted.

Evil Plastic Lawn Chairs

The workshop went well last night. Martine and I have made improvements to our scene - it helps that I can move around this week. Unfortunately, spending the evening sitting in one of the stacking plastic lawn chairs at the SJTC loft did a real number on my back. Yarr. Next week I'll have to make a point of finding a real chair to sit in. I had thought about checking out the annual general meeting tonight, but even the thought of those lawn chairs makes my back ache. So instead, Martine and I are going to get together and work on our scene. At least for the first half of the evening. :-)

Jaywalking

On my way back from my Chiropractic appointment, I take Charlotte Street, past the market and Kings square to get back to E-Zone where I usually park. I know that a lot of people tend to cut across Charlotte even if they have a "Don't Walk" signal and the vehicles have a green light. But if you are going to jaywalk, please at least make sure no traffic is coming. I had 3 teenage girls SAUNTER across the sreet, forcing me to brake heavily, so I leaned on my horn. Makes sense, right? I'd think so. So why do you think they felt compelled to give me the finger? Argh!! :-(

Back Better Bit by Bit

Wow. It's mid-week already. Where does the time go?

Last night Colin and I had a tasty dinner at Swiss Chalet and then rented a movie. We had initially planned on seeing Gothika, but after hearing about some pretty bad reviews of it, we decided a rental would be better. We landed on Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which neither of us had seen. It was OK. Nothing special. It was nice to have an entire evening to relax.

Tonight is our second-last acting workshop class. I'm looking forward to it. This week, I should be able to actually focus on the scene - and move - since my back is getting better. Tomorrow night is the annual general meeting, and then after that, it might be a good opportunity to pull out my artificial tree and try to at least start setting it set up. The worst part is getting the tree put together and the lights on properly. Anyone who knows me also knows that I'm not about to do a half-assed job of getting the lights on: I'm picky. :-) I have 500 coloured lights for my 6' artificial tree. When and if I ever decide to get a new artificial tree, I'm going to get the kind that folds up, instead of the one that comes apart. That way I can fold it up with the lights.

Well, it looks like I'll be directing one of the one-act plays, Doomsday Clock, written by Scott Marshall. Yay! Auditions for the one-act plays will be next Tuesday and Wednesday at the loft.

Focus

Last night went well. Martine came over and we managed to focus on our scene so that we could make some improvements. It helps that we're pretty much off-book. It also helps that my back is slowly getting better, so I'm able to move around more. :-)

Scott also dropped by with a couple of For Better or For Worse comic books and a Star Wars toy he'd found in the attic - kind of like a Rubix Cube, but half R2-D2 and half C-3PO's head.

One month 'till Christmas Eve...

It was a quiet weekend. My back has been getting a bit better every day, but it's still not 100% yet. I still find that I've been feeling tired or worn out pretty easily lately, so I made sure to try to get a lot of rest this weekend. I have yet another Chiropractic appointment today. I'm geting tired of them, but they seem to be helping.

So I did manage to have a relaxing weekend (I can't wait 'till I'm feeling better - there are a lot of things I'd like to get done). Tonight Martine and I will be working on our scene again. I'm hoping it'll be a productive evening. The acting workshop is great, but it's also turning out to be a lot more time-consuming than I'd envisioned. This Wednesday will be our second-last class. Next week the class is Thursday night, as SJTC: Second Stage auditions for one-act plays are Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. The week after next are auditions for Proof and Streetcar. It's a busy time.

I'm not at all ready for Christmas. I am still hoping to be able to find the time to make some ornaments as gifts for friends. Oh, and cards. I should do those up soon as well. What with decorating, shopping and holiday gatherings, I'm looking forward to making the most of this holiday season!

Another Day

So, let's see... another trip to the chiropractor yesterday left me feeling like I had more movement, but boy was I sore. On my way home from the visit, I stopped in at FutureShop and picked up the LOTR:TTT EE DVD and Finding Nemo.

Yesterday evening was the acting workshop. I can't believe there are only a couple more weeks left. It probably wasn't the best idea to go - the plastic lawn chairs there aren't exactly the greatest thing on a sore back, and I was feeling pretty stiff. It was a bit frustrating to do our scene without being able to move much (if at all)... but it was better than missing the class altogether.

Well, after taking some Robaxacet and having a good night's sleep, I'm feeling quite a bit better today. Yay! It looks like a busy day at work, so I should get back to it...

Mid-week

Unfortunately, one trip to the chiropractor didn't solve all of my back problems, but at least I am feeling a bit better than I was on Monday. I have another appointment this afternoon. I can't wait to get back to normal again!

Tonight is acting workshop. I've been looking forward to it, but this week may be difficult with my back problems. I'm obviously going to have to sit out of the exercises we start out with. And for the scene Martine and I are doing, I'm not really going to be able to move, so we're just going to read. We can worry about blocking another time. Hopefully that'll be OK.
It'll be enough navigating the stairs to get to the loft.

I'm not going to go to Halifax this upcoming weekend. I'd told some friends that I'd go up and visit, but I can't imagine the long drive with any lingering back problems. So I'll have some extra time to relax, and maybe get a couple things done around my place.

"Yous"?

On my way out of the office yesterday evening, I found myself walking behind a group of sharply dressed women. As they were parting in different directions, one of them turned and said "See yous tomorrow!"

Argh! "Yous" is not a word. I cannot count the muber of times I've heard it since I moved here. Please people - we're talking basic English here. The plural form of "you" is "you." OK. Now that that is off my chest, thank you (all of you) for letting me vent.

Back

OK, so I've been trying my best not to complain, but my back has been bothering me quite a bit lately, and as a result, I've had a tension headache for a good couple of weeks at least. Yesterday I couldn't handle it anymore, so I went to see my Chiropractor. It was great that he managed to get me so I was able to move a bit again (I was solid as a rock) but I was super sore after. I got home and I was exhausted. I couldn't in any way imagine coming back in to work and sitting in an office chair. So instead, I took the rest of the day off and laid down and took a nice long bath with epson salts.

Martine popped by last night and we worked on our scene. Without moving. I was propped up by pillows as I tried to find a semi-comfortable position on the couch. If we want to do any blocking, I guess we'll have to try to figure that out tonight - if I can move.

I'm still pretty sore today, but not nearly as bad as yesterday, or most of the weekend. Of course, the office chair really isn't helping. It's a good thing I have a lot to work on - which I'm hoping will help distract me. Am I ever glad I don't have a job that requires heavy labour, or I'd be totally out of commission. Well, I'm off to catch up on voice mails and emails...

Another busy weekend

OK... where to begin... Friday night Colin invited me to check out Cliff's opening at Handworks. I had a lovely time and met some very nice people. Cliff's paintings are very nice - I hadn't seen any of his work before. (I know, it's as though I've been hiding under a rock when it comes to gallery showings in this city. I've only been to a couple within the last five years.) After we hung out for a bit, we decided to go for supper at D'Amico's. Jennifer Powers was singing, and I saw Lisa and Anthony at the bar, enjoying the music.

Saturday, I worked on the kids hocky team logo for Nancy. I spent the evening at Sandra's baby shower. (Am I ever glad it wasn't one of those "fluffy" ones with all of the games - I couldn't stand that.) My back has been bothering me quite a bit lately, and as a result I had a terrible tension headache, which tired me out, so I went home and straight to bed with a couple of extra-strength Robaxacet. As I was getting ready for bed, I noticed that I'm starting to go a bit grey. Normally I colour my hair so I'd never notice, but I can certainly tell in my roots. It's not a bad thing. In fact, I think it's kinda cool. :-)

Sunday morning, I had breakfast at Reggies with Colin. I haven't been there in quite a while. Good food and great conversation! I spent the afternoon at the readings for the one-act plays. There was a wide variety of plays that were submitted this year, and we only got about half way through the list. After that, I went home for a bite to eat, then to see the early show of Master and Commander with Colin. Great movie! Just what I was in the mood for!

Productivity feels good

So even though I wan't so productive at work yesterday, I did manage to get a lot done in the evening. I had a fabulous nap, put together the latest edition of the SJTC Newsletter, and then went and got groceries. I even made it to bed a bit early, which I rarely manage to do. All-in-all it was a good day.

I'm looking forward to a fun and full weekend. Hmmm... I wonder when I'll find time to start making Christmas gifts for my friends and family... maybe the week after next.

Mid-short-week

I had a pretty off night last night, but I did learn from it. I guess that's the point. :-)

It looks like another busy work day. And tonight will be a chance to get some things done (a bit of volunteer design stuff) that I'd like to get off my plate. I'm looking forward to the weekend. I think it'll be another busy one... :-)

Back to the grind

It didn't seem like a long weekend. I don't know where the time went. No matter, I'm glad it's a short week. I have a lot to do at work, so it should fly by!

I'm looking forward to tonight's acting workshop. We're doing the first readings of our new scenes. I'm getting a lot out of the class - I'll miss it when it's over.

Remembrance Day - Lest we forget

Well I just saw my mom off on the bus. She's all set with music, stuff to read and snacks, and it's a beautiful day out so it should be a nice trip. We had a good visit. It was very relaxing. I don't know where the time went...

Today I will work on my scene for the acting workshop, and try to get some pro bono design work out of the way. It will be a quiet one. I think a few of us are getting together this evening to do a reading of Proof. That should be fun - it's an excellent script.

Visiting Mom

I left for Halifax right after work on Friday. The weather wasn't too bad, but it was cold and some of the roads were a bit wet, so I'm thankful I had already put my winter tires on. While I was in Halifax, I visited Sue, who was in the Grace Hospital. She is due December 11th. At the moment her blood pressure is really high (which is why she is there), but at least the baby is doing fine. Hopefully she'll be able to carry it to term.

Saturday morning, mom and I hopped in the car and headed back to Saint John. She will be visiting until Tuesday, when she will take the bus back. It was super windy yesterday, so I had a good 2-handed grip on the steering wheel and had to fight to stay in my lane. Yarr. We stopped in Moncton so I could pop in to RW & Co., my favourite clothing store. (So many nice things!)

After stopping off at home, we decided to have supper at Swiss Chalet. Then it was back home to relax for a bit, which meant mom playing Hoyle board games on the Macintosh, and myself playing SSX 3 on the PS2 - quelle surprise! Around 8, we headed over to Lisa and Anthony's who were having a little get-together. There were quite a few people there. By 10 or 10:30, they decided to go to O'Leary's to catch a band, but I was pretty tired, so my mom and I just called it a night.

Not entirely sure what we're going to do today, but no doubt we'll find something!

Friday Five

1. What food do you like that most people hate?
Well, I love sushi, and most people I know have either never tried it or are digusted by it.

2. What food do you hate that most people love?
Diet pops (I don't like the taste of aspertame), Skittles (all I can taste is chemicals), Peppermint, most of the "Ice" brands of gum.

3. What famous person, whom many people may find attractive, is most unappealing to you?
George Clooney comes to mind. Not that he's ugly or anything. He just doesn't do anything for me.

4. What famous person, whom many people may find unappealing, do you find attractive?
Hmm... I'm not sure... maybe Gary Oldman, or Micheal Wincott.

5. What popular trend baffles you?
The most popular trend at the moment - with the g-string showing above the top of the pants. That baffles me. As does the trend where one pant leg is tucked into a boot, while the other one is out. Or one sneaker is done up and the other is wide open. What is with that??

Mental note: don't drink coffee after 8 PM

That's right. It's WAY past my bedtime and I'm still awake. Yarr!

So the acting workshop is on Wednesday evenings. This week we took our scenes and went through them again with our partners, script still firmly in hand (for most of us). Most of us made a bit of time between classes to get together with our partners and work on the scenes. It was great to see the improvements in all of the scenes. I know Martine felt like we may have gotten off on the wrong foot at the start of ours, but I think we did OK. I felt a bit hindered by having the script in my hand, but that's only natural, I suppose. So that's it for out Top Girls scene for this class, although we may take it further on our own - which would be fun! Everyone was assigned new scripts for the rest of the workshop classes, and Martine and I get to work together again (yay)!

So, as usual, there was no heat in the loft. I think it was colder in there than it was outside. A few of us decided to head down to Mexi's to grab a warm beverage - and that's where I made the mistake of ordering a coffee and not think of asking for decaf, even though I DID think of asking for some Kahlua to add to it. Yarr.

Getting ready for Winter

I give in. I wasn't ready for autumn, let alone winter. But with the temperature dropping, I have to concede.

Last night I got my winter tires put on. I went to WalMart, nad it was a three-hour wait. Fine. Three hours. I can deal with that. I'll just do a bit of browsing and grab a bite to eat. So I walked over to Swiss Chalet and had supper. I swear they had my order to me in about 2 minutes. After that, I stopped in FutureShop and then the mall and I picked up a few things while I was out and about. Lots of desperate and pushy sales people in the mall yesterday.

After I got my car back, I stopped in to play some SSX 3 with Scott. I don't really like the multiplayer aspect of it. I'd rather just play on my own and collect items and build up characters. I don't imagine I'll be getting anything so I can play online. I don't think it'll interest me. I really don't enjoy being competitive with other people. If I am going to be competitive, it'll be with myself. We also tried out SSX Tricky for a bit, but the characters are a whole lot harder to control than in the new game. Then, we tried a game of Scrabble - but we somehow managed to spell ourselves into a tight corner, so we gave up. Ah well. It was time I went home anyway.

The Christmas crafts booths are set up in the mall today. Lots of knick-knacks, ranging from very nice and very well-crafted to downright scary.

Bored with lots to do

There are a number of things I'd like to get done outside of work. But last night was not a night to tackle any of them. I had this feeling that I should be doing something, yet any time I tried to start on something I just didn't seem to have the drive to do it. So I gave in and gamed for most of the evening (SSX 3 on PS2 by the way). Ah well. It was fun. I should allow myself to take an evening off now and then. Maybe tonight will be better.

Weekend Update

Friday: I finished my cape, had supper, tidied up, Lisa came over and I helped her with her costume and did her hair and makeup - she was Athena, I was Wonder Woman. Anthony dressed up as Jason, and Scott, who was dressed as the cook from Wet Hot American Summer came to pick us up and give us a lift to the Somerset Pub. We got there around 11. There was a costume contest, and the person dressed as a giant tampon won. After the pub, a few of us headed back to my place for a bit, and I finally made it to bed by about 5:30 in the morning.

Saturday: I dragged myself out of bed and went to see The Hobbit by Theatre New Brunswick. It was more for kids, but a good show nonetheless. I thought the set design was very thoughtfully done. Then I had a nice long nap, and set my alarm to wake myself up in time to get ready to go to another costume party. It was pretty much the last thing I wanted to do - get all dressed up again. But I did. The houseparty was at Goodfellows. It was nice to see Melanie and John all dressed up in their Genie and Aladdin costumes. There was a captain Jack Sparrow there - poor fellow was so drunk. Good costume though. Also, a viking gal, a rubix cube, cruella and 2 dalmations, etc. etc. I left early - before midnight, as I wasn't really in the mood to be out socializing.

Sunday: Martine came over for the afternoon. We spent most of our time chatting and a bit of time working on our scene. It's nice working with her. Once again I find myself looking forward to the workshop on Wednesday. I had a quick bite to eat for supper, then spent my evening playing SSX 3. Major time-suckage. So addictive. :-)

Busy at work this week - LOTS to do....
