Been Working Lots

I've been working a bit of overtime. Otherwise not much new has been going on. Also my work days have been kind of crazy-busy - at least they've been flying by! I have today to finish a bunch of work, then I'm off for a LONG long weekend. Tomorrow morning I head out for our annual canoe trip with folks from work. It's always a blast - and this year it looks like we'll have good weather for it.

Tuesday Twoesome

1. What are your two main sources for news? (TV, cable, internet, etc.)
I listen to the news on CBC radio as I'm getting ready for work inthe morning. I like the fact that they report world news. It seems that the other local radio stations barely touch on anything other than regional stuff. Sometime during the day at work I will catch up on the news on the internet - that way I can check multiple papers for interesting stories.

2. While in the car, do you prefer music or talk radio? Why?
Music. I love music. I also enjoy singing to it when I'm in the car.

3. More annoying: commercials or "witty banter" between DJs? Why?
LOL - good question. I'd have to go with commerrcials because they get repeated so often. Of course, it may be easier to tune them out that way. I have stopped listening to some stations because of their horrible "witty banter."

4. More useful in the morning: Weather forecast or traffic reports? Why?
Weather forecast. I walk to work so I don't need a traffic report. I just need to know if I should bring an umbrella or if it's nice enough to wear open-toed shoes.

5. What two things cause you to get angry while driving? Explain.
Drivers that tailgate and drivers that cut others off. Both are accidents waiting to happen.

Weekend Update

Shakespeare makeup Friday night then Tapps for a quick drink with cast, crew and friends.
Saturday made it to the gym, then got groceries, then house cleaning, then Shakespeare again (last night of the show). Then the cast party - which involved a late nigt/early morning full of a lot of dancing. Beth crashed on my couch.
Sunday we were up at noon and mobile by 1 PM. I spent the rest of the day upriver, finishing Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and then hanging out with Colin, Shannon, Cliff, Felix, Dawn and Bill - and the pets. :-) After a wonderful dinner and a day in the sun, I was pretty wiped. I got home and crawled in bed at 9:00.
I have enough on my plate for work today that I think I'll be working overtime today so I'd better get to it.
Later, 'gators!

Friday Feast #56

Appetizer:
What kind of car do you drive? If you could make an even trade for any other car, what would you want to drive?
I drive a Toyota Matrix XR. I love it. I'm currently leasing and I don't think there's another car in the same price range that I'd be interested in. You see, my car has all of these great features that I love - like a sunroof, fog lights (you need them in Saint John), cruise control, power locks, ABS brakes, big fancy tires, and air conditioning.

Soup:
Take your phone number and add each number together separately (example: 8+6+7+5+3+0+9=38) - what's the total?
23

Salad:
When were you last outside, and what were you doing?
Uh - I walked to work this morning. It's lovely out. Don't even need a coat.

Main Course:
What is your favorite restaurant, and what do you usually order there?
Around here, I'd say Suwanna. I get cravings for their red thai curry. Mmmmm.... just thinking about it now......

Dessert:
Name 3 things in which you occasionally indulge.
Only 3? Goodness, I dont know if I can do that. When it comes to alcohol, I would say port, scotch and red wine. Not all together - yuck. For snacking, I'd have to go with double-salted licorice, dark dark chocolate, and guacamole.

20 minutes

Last night The Running Room had a "20 Minute Challenge". All you had to do was show up, sign up and go walk or run for 20 minutes and they'd give you a free hat. The hats this year are bright orange - a colour I quite like. They are ventilated and made out of a nice lightweight breathable material. The walk was a good opportunity to stretch after my morning run, and I've actually been wanting a more breathable hat for running.

It looks like a pretty busy day of work ahead of me so I'd better get to it. If any of you are bored tonight, don't forget that this is the last week of Julius Caesar at the Gothic Arches (tonight, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm).

Late-ish night/productive early morning

A burger at Churchills after work, then home to read for a bit and get a couple of things done around the house. I stayed up to watch Rock Star: INXS, which was worth it. I only wish it wasn't on so late. Then this morning I dragged my tired ass out of bed to go for an early morning run. I wanted to get it over with while it was still a cool 15ºC out - before it warms up to 28ºC this afternoon. I decided that even though I was feeling lethargic and achey, I'd try to run the 5 mile route for Marathon by the Sea. That's 8 kilometers if you do the math. Colin came along and cheered me on as I ran my 7 and 1's. I finished the course in an hour and managed to pack in 53 minutes of a run at a relaxed pace. I hope that the next time I go out to run I feel a little bit better. I had trouble getting started this morning so for the entire lower cove loop, I felt as though my pace was no faster than walking. Come to think of it, I don't think I really got warmed up until I hit Bayshore Drive. There is a huge difference on my knee between running on ashphalt and running on concrete sidewalks (ouch!). Well I feel great for doing it, although I forsee a lunchtime nap and an ice pack in my near future! In the mean time, I think I'm going to go search for a bit of caffeine....

Cross-Training

I made it to the gym last night to get in a bit of cross training. I did some upper body weights and biked for a bit. With any sport, your risk of injury increases dramatically if you do not cross-train. The last thing I want to do is develop some sort of running injury - especially since I've been enjoying it so much.

A Full Weekend

Friday flew by. I pretty much went straight from work to Shakespeare to do makeup. With a half hour of work to go, I got a phone call from my friend Peter from Toronto. He and his friend Marcus had decided to hop on their motorcycles and head to the east coast for the weekend and they needed a place to crash. They were just over half an hour away. I had just enough time toi get home, do a bit of quick tidying and stock up on beer. Thise two are hilarious. Great company. It was a pretty late but entertaining evening. :-)

Saturday morning while the guys slept in, I managed to get a few errands done. When I got back home at lunch, they finally managed to drag themselves out of slumber mode and headed out. I wasn't sure if they were going to stick around or not but I offered up my place again for that night if they needed it. That afternoon I picked up a decent pair of sunglasses for running (with interchangeable lenses no less!) and some new running shorts. Thankfully I managed to get a nap in before Shakespeare that evening. I was pretty wiped from my late night the night before. Sure enough as I was finishing up with Shakespeare, I got a call from Peter and Marcus who were heading back to my place. So Michelle and I headed back to my place for a glass of wine. then Peter and Marcus showed up and we hung out with them for a bit, Then John and Melanie came out and we kept hanging out for a bit before I realized the time and that Michelle and I should be at the cast party. We headed out and I left Peter with my keys and instructinos to call if they went anywhere (so I could possibly meet up with them later). The cast party was good. Allain has a spacious enough place to handle the large cast and crew. I had about a glass and a half of wine and got a chance to catch up with a few folks before I noticed that it was about 2:10 and I should get back to my place to meet up with my houseguests. I got back just in time to see Melanie and John heading home. Sorry I missed you guys - hope you had a good night! At least it wasn't as late a night as the night before.

Sunday was a mellow day. I saw Peter and Marcus off, went for brunch at Reggies with Colin to catch up with him. Then home for a little nap, then called Colin and we went to see The Wedding Crashers. It was a little bit all over the place in terms of quality and humor. Some of it was funny, some of it dragged, and some of it was weird. Also, it was 2 hours long, which I feel is too long for a comedy. I recommend renting it. After the movie I dropped Colin off and headed over to the Nature Park for a run. I decided to run the entire outer trail which is 8 km. I walked for the first 5 minutes and then ran 6 walked 1 and it took me 59:31 to get back to my car. So I got in 51:31 minutes of running total. I actually surprised myself by going so long as I'd been having some pain around my left ankle and knee. I made sure to ice them when I got home, and I think I may even have to make a point of icing them again tonight. That was pretty much the rest of my evening. I read for a bit then hit the hay at 9 and slept right through till 8 this morning. I guess I needed it!

Friday Feast

Appetizer:
What is your middle name? Would you change any of your names if you could? If so, what would you like to be called?
My middle name is Nadine. I grew up being called Nadine and I hated it. Especially since we had lived in Quebec for a number of years and the French pronunciation of Nadine is something along the lines of Ned-zin. Of course, many English folks would give the "a" a really nasal sound and call me Naaaaadine. Did I mention that I hated it?

So here I was at the ripe age of 8 and we were moving to Edmonton. I remember finally broaching the subject to my mom of how much I hate my name as we were packing the car to move across the country. What a surprise when I found out that Nadine was actually my middle name and that I had a totally different first name! I couldn't believe that I'd managed to get through 8 entire years of my life without knowing that.

My parents told me that I could go by my actual first name, Andrea if I really preferred but I would not be allowed to keep switching back and forth. Not a problem. By the time we reached Edmonton, I was Andrea. It took a few years for a lot of my relatives to get the hang of it, and I still have some relatives who call me Nadine and I don't mind that at all.

Of course, my parents always pronounced my name as "on-dree-ah" and I still felt a burning hatred for the whole pronunciation with a nasal twang, so I spent years correcting people and trying to explain the pronunciation. By the time I was 20, one of my friends decided that it was too much work to correct people all the time so she started calling me by my middle syllable "Dre" and it stuck. But Lo-and-behold: the nickname "Dre" always needs to be explained. Go figure. Sigh.

Soup:
If you were a fashion designer, which fabrics, colors, and styles would you probably use the most?
If I was a fachion designer the world of fabrics colours and styles would be my oyster. Why would I limit myself to certain ones? I'm sure that each season I would go looking for new inspirations so my style would evolve regularly.

Salad:
What is your least favorite chore, and why?
My least favorite chore is cleaning the bathroom. Yuck. But it has to be done.

Main Course:
What is something that really frightens you, and can you trace it back to an event in your life?
Losing my memory. I guess. That would suck.

Dessert:
Where are you sitting right now? Name 3 things you can see at this moment.
I'm sitting at my desk at work. Other than the basic office supplies, I can see my string of colourful flower-lights, a handful of colorful polished stones, and my shoe calander.

"Fitness Like Honor Cannot be Bestowed, it Must be Earned"

Leave the office, grab a bite to eat, get changed, gather supplies, head to the Gothic Arches for the final dress rehearsal for Julius Caesar. Spend 1.5 hours applying makeup to 1/3 of the cast, as Beth and Michelle (thanks guys!!) worked on the other 2/3rds. Then watch part of Act 1 and deal with some makeup issues that arose, then make Brian J. look like a different character, make Caesar more ghostly, pack up and head home.

When I got home I dropped off my makeup kit and donned an old INXS t-shirt then headed over to Jay's where Jay, Liz, Lisa and I watched the first episode of Rock Star: INXS (which I'd missed) then we watched the 1/2 hour results show that was on at 10:30. It's a really good series - I can't get over the quality of the singer/performers. Amazing. By the time I got back home I was dead-tired. My legs were sore from standing all evening and doing makeup and I was SO ready for bed. I am pretty sure I fell instantly asleep as my head hit the pillow.

The next thing I knew, my alarm was buzzing and it was 6:00 AM. Time flies when you're sleeping the sleep of the dead. I met up with Colin within 15 minutes and we headed over to Rockwood Park for a morning run. I ran "6 and 1's" along a somewhat hilly trail. It was cool and misty out this morning with just a hint of the heavy humidity of summer. It was perfect weather for a run. We saw 4 rabbits (of course, it may have only been one or two since we'd doubled back on the trail 1/2 way through the run). So I got 43 minutes of running in within 50 minutes this morning. Thanks Colin for the running support, encouragement and company. If I had planned to run on my own this morning I may very well have just stayed in bed instead. Not a bad start to the day, even if it was a little early. Now I could use a nap....

Road Run #1

I've been spoiling myself by running at the Nature Park. It's scenic and the trails are nice and soft so they are easy on the joints. Last night I decided it was time to get out for a run on pavement and actually try out the route for the 5-Mile at the Marathon by the Sea. Unfortunately, it also happened to be about 23 degrees and sunny so it was a wee bit warm - especially along the causeway and Bayside drive. Kim came with me and we ran 6 and 1's for as long as we could before takeing more frequent and longer breaks thanks to the heat. We cut things a bit short and cut over to Rothesay avenue before Superstore instead of going around it. By the time we got to Harbour Passage, I think we'd managed to fit in about 40 minutes of running in 55 minutes. Didn't it cool off as soon as we were done - within half an hour of finishing up, the temperature had dropped to a much more manageable 16. Sheesh!

After running, I ran a few errands to pick up the rest of the stuff I needed for Shakespeare makeup, then made supper and relaxed for a bit. I stayed up to watch Rock Star: INXS which was really good.

Meetings upon meetings...

Yesterday and today have been absolutely packed with meetings for work. Last night was a work dinner at the Ale House that was nice but it didn't leave much time for anything else. Here is a post-it note doodle:

Weekend Update

Friday evening began with a 2.5 hour hair appointment as I got my highlights touched up and a bit of a trim. After that I wound up at Churchills and ran into Joanna and Kevin and then the theatre gang - who I wound up joining for a beverage while they had a late dinner.

Saturday I was up bright and early for a morning run at the Nature Park with Colin. I got into the groove and found a decent pace, and managed to shave a minute and a half off of my time. The mosquitos were bad - especially once we stopped. I spent the afternoon gathering the rest of the items I needed for the Shakespeare makup kit, then I had a bite to eat then got ready to head out to Hampton for a little shindig. Beth had invited me to a party out that way that was fabulous. they had Matt Anderson playing (he's awesome) and I met some very nice people. Because I'd had a few drinks I crashed at Beths.

Sunday I spent the better part of the day dealing with makeup stuff for the first Shakespeare dress rehearsal. That evening I watched American Psycho which I'd rented last week for a week. I must remember to return those movies tomorrow night.

A Great Evening!

After work I headed over to the Nature Park for a run. I walked the first 5 minutes to warm up then I generally stuck to running for 5 minutes then walking for 1 minute. I got in just over 42 minutes of running and made it back to my car in under 55 minutes!! Man it felt great - and I still feel great today!

After my run I rushed home to grab a quick shower and change before heading over to Joanna's for a dinner party. The food, wine and company were all absolutely fabulous! (Thanks again for the invite and great cooking, Joanna!)

Ye Ol' Lunchtime Nap

Yes indeedy - I am a big fan of napping at lunch. I just got back from one and I feel very refreshed. It usually takes me all of 30 seconds to fall asleep and I usually wind up napping for between 20 minutes and half an hour. I don't nap every day. I think it's more along the lines of 2 or 3 times a week. I'm thankful I live so close to work!

Bit by Bit

I have a list of things to get done that doesn't include regular chores. These are projects for myself and others that have been lingering for a while. I am slowly but surely plodding through the list. I want to get these things done - because I have ideas for new projects already that I'd love to work on. (And so the cycle continues.)

Part of my plan of attack is to not take on any new projects for a while. As it is, enough of my time will be spent training for running. Then the key will be balancing relaxation/socializing with time to work on these outstanding projects.

Push it

I got in 35 minutes of running at the nature park yesterday after work. Run 5 walk 1 for the first 4 rounds then run 5 walk 2 after that. Thanks "Coach Parewick" for the extra push. Later that evening I made sure to take some Extra-strength Advil, bathe in epson salts, then ice my knees. I couldn't stay up past 10. I'm feeling suprisingly decent this morning. A little achey but that's to be expected.

The Rest of Canada Day Weekend

First of all, I'd like to congratulate Kizzy and Jamie on their engagement. That certainly made their Canada Day party a memorable one!

I managed to get out to the nature park for a bit of a run on Saturday. I decided to run 5 walk 2 and wound up getting in 34 minutes of running. It felt great! Afterwards, both of my knees were pretty sore so I made sure to ice them for a bit before heading out to Beth's for her deck party. It was nice and I gt to meet a few more of her friends. But I didn't stay late - and was back home and in bed by 10:30.

Sunday was a pretty productive day. I managed to get a bit of design work done and ran some errands inthe afternoon. I did a bit of rollerblading on harbour passage to loosen up my legs. Sunday evening I went to see War of the Worlds which was AWESOME!

Happy Canada Day!

Alas my cold quickly turned into a flu on Tuesday evening and I spent next day and a half in bed recouperating. Thankfully I was feeling mostly better by Thursday evening so I could do my final performance of the scene I had with Beth for our workshop. By then, all that was left of this cold/flu was a blistering headache that even Advil wouldn't help. I decided to do my best to ignore it. The beginner and advanced classes got together and performed our monologues and scenes for friends and family. (Thanks, Colin and Joanna for coming out!) I really enjoyed the evening. It was a delight to see all of the monologues that the beginner class had worked on and since I'd missed our class on Tuesday it was a real treat to see how much eveyone in my class had progressed with their scenes. Great job, everyone!!

It's Canada Day and it's nice to have a day off and not be sick in bed. I'm looking forward to heading over to Kizzy and Jamie's for their BBQ/party. I hope you all have a wonderful Canada Day! Now I'm off to find some red and white stuff to wear.... ;-)
